MAgnetism and alignment side-by-side

When 2 objects are grouped together, magnetism doesn't work, is there a way?
Automatic side-by-side alignment doesn't work on all sides.

Select them individually in the group by clicking a second time on one of the objects of the group then selecting the second one by clicking on it with shift key pressed. You may also select them in the furniture list.

Automatic side-by-side alignment doesn't work on all sides.
Side by side alignment aligns the second and following objects of the selection on the back of the first selected object (opposite side of the thicker line of its selection rectangle), without rotating them. So pay attention to which object is first selected.

I know how to select multiple grouped objects.... The question was when I select one of the objects in the group, it doesn't magnetically snap to another object in the group. Do I have to separate them first...

Re: MAgnetism and alignment side-by-side

Do the parts that need to be aligned with magnetism share the same elevation, or at least partial share in height? I found that objects on a different elevation don't align through magnetism.

Re: MAgnetism and alignment side-by-side

Sorry, I didn't read you correctly. You're right, magentism doesn't work for objects within a group and you need to ungroup them first. Maybe I should improve this behavior...

Keet, your comment is right but magnetism doesn't work for two objects at different elevations only if the bottom of the higher object is higher than the top of the lower one. Logical, not?

Re: MAgnetism and alignment side-by-side

Yep logical, I just though I would point it out since that might have been the cause of the failed magnetism snap. I totally missed the part that the two objects were in a group smile
It would be nice if magnetism would work inside a group, I often rearrange objects in a group.

Re: MAgnetism and alignment side-by-side

Adding a "align top with bottom," for example, would suffice. Because in the case depicted in the image, if I use the "align side by side," they overlap. Yes, there's magnetism, but sometimes it's difficult. An "align top with bottom" or even "bottom with bottom" would be very useful.
