Hello All...

Is it possible to remove a border from a room? My problem is, not all room transitions have a door. The door would normally cover up the black room border lines. For example, a living room to a hallway, there is no door, also from the kitchen to the hallway or common area there is no door. Consequently, I have these unwanted black room border lines. I guess I could delete the room but I kinda like the room sq ft and other room features. I have been able to figure out everything but this issue. Any help is appreciated. Thanks to all who make this awesome software.

You can insert a door frame (and make it invisible if necessary)

Do yhis first, then insert both rooms and the floors will meet in the middle of the door opening.

That won't work Hans. The eteks door frame has a sill that you can't make invisible separately so you will have to make the whole door frame invisible. That essentially removes the door and the wall will reappear. If you don't make the frame invisible the sill will also remain visible.

It is possible to achieve the required result in a few different ways:
1. Create a custom door frame where the sill has a separate material that you can make invisible. (See below how-to)
2. Insert a door and create the rooms. Split the wall twice and move the splits to the sides of the door. Remove the wall part where the door is and also remove the door. The rooms remain as if there was a door and there's no line since they connect.
3. Split the wall twice and move the splits where the opening should be. Remove the wall part. Add points to the room where the opening is and move them to fill in the gap. With magnetism on this is very easy because it will show a round dot at the wall/room corners. You add points to a room by selecting it and right-click on the room border where you want to add a point and select "Add point" from the context menu.

Options 2 and 3 will have a gap from floor to ceiling. If that is not what you want use option 1.
You could also use option 2 or 3 and add an elevated box for the top. This won't work very well because the same texture on the wall and the box will still look different. I recommend you go for the custom door frame. It's really easy to create. Even if you want a gap all the way to the ceiling this a better option because it makes it easier if you want to recreate the rooms because there still is a "door" to get the separate but connected rooms.

How to create a door frame with a separate sill:
• Use boxes to create a frame without the sill. Export the boxes as "Frame" and edit the obj and mtl files that are created by the export:
• In the obj file change all lines starting with usemtl to usemtl Frame. Save the obj file.
• In the mtl file remove all but the first block. Replace the line starting with newmtl with newmtl Frame. Save the mtl file.
• Import the Frame object.
• Create a sill using the box object and export it as "Sill". Edit the obj and mtl files again:
• Do the same replacements in the obj and mtl files as you did for the frame but now use "Sill" instead of "Frame".
• Import the Sill object
• Combine the Frame and Sill to a door frame and export as "OpenDoorFrame" (or another name you like).
• Import as "Door or window" and you have a door frame where you can make the Sill invisible and the Frame remains as a door opening. Making the sill invisible will still leave the door opening and the rooms should connect in the middle.
For cleanup you can remove the Frame and Sill obj/mtl files if you want. They are no longer needed.

Another possibility is to make a full frame (including the sill) and export it. Again replace all usemtl lines with usemtl Frame and in the mtl file leave only one block with newmtl Frame.
At the bottom of the single remaining block in the mtl file add the line "d 0.0". This will make the whole frame "invisible" because the line "d 0.0" makes it 100% transparent. Import it as "Door or window" of course. Now you have an invisible frame to cut a hole in a wall. You can simply resize the object to the size of the hole you want so you can use it for any sized hole you need.

I think Wayda just want to hide the border of rooms and doesn't want to show a sill but it's simply not possible in Sweet Home 3D. The workaround which remains is to export your plan to SVG and hide the borders in a SVG editor like Inkscape.

Just curious, but why is there a border in the 2Dview at all? It's not like the floor actually has a border.
Is it just an edge to add a shade to when the floor is selected to show the edges and points? In that case the edges might just as well hide along with the corner points when not selected.

There’s a border around a room to ensure it’s always visible, in case the room and the background have the same color.
