Measure headspace in a staircase coming into a slopped roof.

In a 1.5 story house, I want to do the following:
- First floor, along the long wall, a quarter turn staircase to the second floor.
- First to second floor, the quarter turn staircase running perpendicular to the long wall follows more or less the roof, 7 feet below.

First floor, top view:

___________

First-to-second floor, side view:

|__________| ← first floor

staircase

How can I make sure that there is 7 feet of headspace at the quarter turn?

Thanks!

Sorry, this should read "from bottom to top".
