Water tank, plumbing, stove and flue

I have never used this software before so I am a complete amateur. I am looking to design a fireplace for my house. It contains an inset wood burning stove. The flue from the stove goes up through the ceiling and into the bathroom, then out through a wall. A water tank will be positioned directly above the stove. I need to experiment with positioning of the stove and flue, design the water tank and also design a support for them (this will involve brick piers built from the basement up through the chamber floor and RSJ's to support the heavy items. New layouts of the bathroom will be required to accommodate the flue. I will need to model joists between floors as the flue must run between these. Is it possible to design this kind of structural detail in this software? If not, maybe it can help me with certain aspects, and perhaps someone could recommend other software to carry out the more structural elements. Thanks

Re: Water tank, plumbing, stove and flue

Perfectly possible to design with SH3D. And although not very difficult, you need to familiarise yourself with levels, finding models and using cylinders etc for flue. I you look through the forum, you may also find specific hints (such as placing joists in thread 6255).

Good luck. ok

Re: Water tank, plumbing, stove and flue

It sounds like you’re planning a complex and interesting project involving a stove, flue, water tank, and structural modifications. Most architectural design or CAD software like SketchUp, Revit, or FreeCAD can help with layout planning, experimenting with stove and flue positioning, and basic structural elements like joists and supports. However, for detailed structural engineering (like RSJs, brick piers from basement to floor, and load calculations), these tools may be limited unless used with plugins or paired with structural analysis software like SAP2000, Tekla Structures, or AutoCAD Structural Detailing.

If you're a beginner, SketchUp might be the easiest to start with. It allows for good 3D visualization and experimenting with positioning. For structural accuracy, consulting an engineer or using specialized structural design software would be best.
