SweetHome3D and .dae files from Google Sketchup : scaling problems

Good day all - let me say right up front that I love SH3D!! Has kept my sanity in check for two years of dreaming. I am now pushing my limits and am trying to 'build' stuff in Sketchup that can not be 'built' in SH3D, and am finding some issues with scaling.
In specific, I have created a roof section that is a post and beam arrangement, exposed wooden beams. The section that I have created in SU is 16' x 8' , exactly the size of the room in SH3D that I want to put the roof over. Yet when I import the 'furniture' , the .dae file looks correct, but is smaller ( dimensionally ) than it is supposed to be, and when I stretch it to the correct size, it gets all goobered ( technical term ) up.

Any ideas as to how to enforce the scaling?

Thanks in advance for those that read and ponder my question.

Re: SweetHome3D and .dae files from Google Sketchup : scaling problems

Al,

Carefully read the User Guide on Importing 3D models.

Although I'm not familiar with feet and inches, there are a few possibilities that seem obvious:
1 - SH3D can use several measuring units: inches, centimeters, etc. Make sure your system is set to use inches. To change the measuring units in SH3D go to File --> Preferences.
2 - Sketchup uses feet, SH3D uses inches.
- Solution 1: set Sketchup to use inches as well, because SH3D only uses inches.
- Solution 2: when importing your model, multiply your dimensions by 12. **
3 - Apart from feet/inches, other combinations are possible, depending on the measuring unit used when the model was designed. For centimer to inch, divide by 2.54, etcetera. **
4 - If you have a lot of models to convert, you can use the library editor (tutorial PDF) which offers a few buttons to help this kind of conversion.

** During importing: In step 3 make sure that the checkbox for Keep proportions is checked. Now enter one correct dimension for your model. The other values will automatically scale up or down. This guarantees that there is no distortion in your model.

Re: SweetHome3D and .dae files from Google Sketchup : scaling problems

Ah!!! That was it, when importing the .dae file, SH3D came up with a width measurement of 77" instead of 194.4" ( 16.2' ) for example. I don't know where the import measurements came from, but paying attention to them and correcting at least one of the values fixed my problem. Perfect answer. Thanks again.
