changing from metric to imperial

Is there a global setting where I can select units in inches instead of centimeters?

Go to File/Preferences/Unit and choose what you want.

Re: changing from metric to imperial

There is one important thing you must remember when you use imperial instead of metric. All 3D models use metric when they are created, no matter what format they are in (obj/mtl, 3ds, etc.). When you look at an .obj file of a 3D model with a text editor you can see that all values are metric.

When you use a model from the catalog (drag it into the 2D pane) its measurements are converted from metric to imperial. In some case this can cause objects that should align perfectly to not align as they should. This is due to the metric-to-imperial conversion process. You can solve this by switching back to metric before dragging the furniture into your 2D pane. After they are in the 2D pane you can switch back to imperial and your furniture should align as they should.
