How to trace real floorplan?

I have a real floor plan and thought tracing it would be easy using polygons, but that doesn’t work. Is using Create walls really the only correct way? How do you deal with the small corners and offsets? Example image attached.

Re: How to trace real floorplan?

I only use "Create Walls" and I don't have any problems. Walls have their own properties about height, thickness, position in the coordinate system, everything can be entered numerically. I use a *.jpg or *.png as a base plan and simply create walls of the required width and height. After that, I just check with the dimensions tool whether the positions of the walls are correct. It is also possible to help the wall with the arrow keys. That's how I usually do it.

Re: How to trace real floorplan?

Another way, if you have a vector plan, create an object (plane) from the plan in one of the 3D programs and export it to *.obj or *. 3ds and import that plan into SH3D and only give it the height you want...

Re: How to trace real floorplan?

Don't draw the walls. Draw the room outline with the room tool, then activate the wall tool and double click the room. The app will create the walls for you. When drawing a room, you can use the number pad "Enter" to enter dimensions directly in the tooltip. This way the internal room dimensions will be numerically accurate.

You can use temporary rooms to represent the entire internal floor area, change the default wall thickness in preferences, and double click the temp room to create the thicker outer walls. Then just delete the room, and start adding your interior walls (after changing the prefs setting back to the needed thickness). You can again add temporary rooms if necessary that you accurately dimension to use the wall tool double-click.

Note this works the other way too. With the room tool active, double click a spot enclosed by walls and the room will be created for you filling out to the surrounding walls.
