Help me please with ideas to make this Roof
Hello everyone!

I've working in this Great Mansion

If you're curious, I found it here:
Monster house

I'm planning to buy this mansion this year.

LOL, just kidding. This is Why I love SH3D, it allows me to daydream.

Now, seriously:

And after several attempts, this is the best I've achieved:

It looks longer only because the model still hasn't roof nor garden, don't panic!

The problem is the mansards. My brain is about to explode because it would need more months of work to make the entire model in a CAD program.

For gabled roofs, I used to apply my own set of pieces that allowed me to assemble almost any gabled roof, like lego pieces. I shared it here, indeed. The same principle for mansards would be extremely more complicated...

I've been trying to use the Roof Generator plugin to make approximation models of the mansards and then modify them, but I couldn't.

If there is something I obviously do not know about Roof Generator Plugin,
please let me know.

Or if you have other idea I could follow to finish my mansion, please tell me.

To model a single mansard would no mean trouble, but this mansion has many intersections between mansards of different heights and a lot of ornaments. The lego principle is, IMO, impossible.

What do you think?

I'll wait for answers in my real house:

Thank you in advance and SMILE!!!

Re: Help me please with ideas to make this Roof
I'm afraid you will have to custom create the roofs. This is so specific that I don't think you can create it with the roof generator. Maybe the base gabled roofs but not the extras to finish it.

The roof planes are simple flat surfaces but you will have to create the tops and sides, maybe use half cylinders. Then there is the even bigger job of the custom gutters around the roof bottoms. With a little luck you can create an inside and outside corner and a straight gutter and use those to create all the gutters.

So far an excellent job, the house looks great.

Bonjour Indigo Solo.

Re: Help me please with ideas to make this Roof
some complex roofs, such as your conical roof on a round tower, can be made using figures from the website of the respected Keet (Dodecagon). There are cones with 12 faces. Unfortunately, the Keet shapes do not allow you to apply textures correctly, they begin to lie at an angle and slide down. But you can ignore it. Or use color instead of tile texture. For example, the roof of a tower made of two Dodecagon cones with 12 faces, it is important to accurately combine these cones, the alignment tools in SH3D will help (they are in the "Furniture" column, you first need to make all shapes of the same width and depth, align, and then return them to the desired dimensions, then they will center relative to each other). I will now try to make your other straight roofs in simple ways.

Now we can't have that! I added 6 texturable cones to the DodecagonShapes library, 2 smooth (different texture mapping), 2 12-sided (different texture mapping), and a 6 and 8 sided cone.

Have fun!

Wow Keet!!! Great! Thanks!! Is it possible to make a pyramid with the same texture properties? Then any roofs will work!!

A 3 and a 4 sided texturable pyramid is added to the DodecagonShapes library.

Re: Help me please with ideas to make this Roof
Thanks Keet! So far, I have found one face of the pyramid on which the texture fits correctly. I made the other faces invisible and combined them into a group. To get the long side of the roof, I applied several edges with a slight offset. And most importantly, for the texture, I used a PNG texture of a tiled roof, from which I cut out the upper part. I did this in Photoshop. Therefore, the result is not a pyramid with a vertex, but a cut-off vertex. It's on the roof of our esteemed Indigo Solo.

There's a hole on top, of course, if you take a picture from above, you need to insert the lid from the box.

One face? You probably used the old pyramid. Use the "Texturable Pyramid".

Re: Help me please with ideas to make this Roof
WOW!
Thanks all of you for your answers and the good mood about my project.

I hope soon to share the mansion with its roof.

I decided to create a Mansard version of the lego pieces to create (almost) any mansard you want.

Working on it.

And of course I'll use the conic roof provided by Keet.

And, I'd like to examine closely the project château de la Star Ac of captaincook. Where can I watch it?

See you soon.

Or I think so.
