Less restrictive panning in 2D view

Post by doofus »

It would be nice if I could pan more freely in the 2D view.
Right now the view is very boxed in and it's not possible to center on the edges which is pretty annoying.

It makes it difficult to focus and work on those areas or even add things that go beyond those areas.

I don't really see the point in restricting panning at all.
But if you do restrict it there should be some leeway to make it possible to center on any part of an existing object.

I solve this by adding two 'marker' boxes that mark a square bigger than my actual work area. For example one at X,Y -5000,-5000 and one at X,Y 5000,5000. Those boxes define a square as the work area and your real work area fits inside thus can be panned freely. Don't make that square larger than necessary because it can affect the zoom in the 3Dview.

If you don't want to add marker boxes you can drag-and-drop one object to the sides to enlarge the area and then ctrl-Z to return it to its original position. You can repeat that for each side you want to enlarge. Once the area is 'touched' it is part of the scroll area.
