Sun Sky options hidden.

Post by Xiste »

Currently, the built-in Sun & Sky systems are completely locked inside the compiled binaries (.jar / .dylib). Because we cannot adjust atmospheric parameters like Turbidity or Ozone, the automated sky generation often fails to render a realistic horizon or proper golden hour gradients (for example, simulating Oslo at 07:00 or 08:00 AM yields a clinically blue or overly dark sky, missing the warm, hazy morning glow we experience in reality).
To compensate for this, many of us have to manually design custom background textures in Photoshop and render each time-slot one by one, destroying the ability to run automated batch renders or overnight video sequences.
If we try to bypass this by using a solid color/green-screen for post-production masking in software like After Effects or DaVinci Resolve, we encounter a massive physical limitation: we lose all the natural glass reflections (like interior pillars reflecting on the window panes), or the emitting color bleeds into the Global Illumination.
To unlock the full potential of SH3D's fantastic and fast lighting system, I kindly request the following features:
1. Expose basic Sun & Sky controls: Give us a simple slider or input field in the "Create Photo/Video" dialog to tweak Turbidity / Atmosphere haze and sun intensity independently of the geographic sun position. This allows us to keep the correct, long morning shadows while achieving a realistic, warm sky color automatically.
2. Alpha Channel Support / Transparent Backgrounds: Allow the photo renderer to export images with a transparent background option (PNG with Alpha) that safely preserves glass reflections and transparency over the exterior sky window areas.

I would love to hear if other users face the same challenges and would support this addition!

The source code is available under GPL. Just fork it and implement it. One guy (who unfortunately ceased to be active) already created a fork to use modern Java. Maybe what's left of the community should create a shared fork using his work. See https://github.com/laszukdawid/DobryDom3D

I did a scan for any "problems" and didn't see any. Just performance, modernisation, and rebranding. I submitted a couple of outstanding pull requests. It would not be much effort to make an organisation for this fork. Any longstanding community members who wanted could be added as contributors.

Stuff it. I've created: https://github.com/DobryDom3D/DobryDom3D

Give me your Github name, and as long as you have a reasonable history as a contributor around here, I'll add you as a member. If you are ideologically opposed to AI make your own fork. Certainly any of my contributions will be AI assisted.

Well, yes, the source code... I'm , sad to say, quite unfamiliar with coding. My appoach is towards the visual part. As a frequent user of this fast and easy program, I look for a way to handle the boring part: Rendering. I could of course use AI, but then it all becomes generic. I don't want that.
