Artifacts in 3D view

Post by baggins »

I created a model of my home and added some areas in the front of my house.
To that end, I created some 'rooms' and gave them some texture: soil or concrete.
As these 'rooms' have a special shape, I had to add several points to them because of the irregular shape.

When I make a 3D view of the front of my house, I can see that everywhere I added an extra point, this shows up in the 3D view.

I could not find how to insert an image in this message, only an image hyperlink. If someone can explain how to do this, I will post an image...

Often it is easier to draw the surrounding area with walls and then double click inside the walls to create the room. Make sure that the walls enclose an area without gaps where walls connect.

Upload your image to an image host (imgur, mediafire, etc). Post the link to the image here. If the host allows hotlinking (link directly to the image) you can use the 'Image' button for the url.

Post an image(-link).

It's hard to see in the image with the low resolution.
Anyway, you should use walls to create the rooms and only manually add or remove points for small corrections, not to change the design.
Read my manual How-To Create paths and rivers with the TerrainGenerator to create the perfect landscape for your house. The principles described should help you to with curves in your design.

The TerrainGenerator is a plugin you need to install. You can read more about it here .

Here is a higher resolution image: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ue2xf7j1 ... 4.png/file

I will have a look at the TerrainGenerator.

I have found out what is causing these artifacts.

I have several adjacent 'rooms'. When the edges of these rooms do not align exactly, some small gaps between the two rooms exist. It are these small gaps between the edges that cause the artifacts.
Obviously, when creating rooms with curved edges, it is to be expected that the edges of the rooms do not coincide.

I have now eliminated these small gaps and the artifacts are gone...

No it's not. You just have to create the rooms in the correct way.

The rooms are created using walls, which is THE way to do this if you want rooms to connect seamless. The outer room is created using the helper wall and after that one is removed you can fill the gap by moving two points to the opposite side of the gap.
Now create the inner room by clicking ON the wall of the inner room. This will create a room around the outside circumference of the wall, i.e exactly matching the hole in the outer wall.
When you click one of the rooms you can see little arrows for all the points that create the room. These points are created because the wall is actually not a smooth bend but a set of segments that together visually simulate a rounding. When you create a room using those walls the room points match the joins of those segments. Since you use the inner walls for both rooms the points for those rooms match exactly: no gaps between the rooms.
