Problem with mirror-like texture

I am learning to use Sweet Home 3D as well as making my first steps with 3D modeling in general, using Wings 3D to model my furniture.

I would like to model a wardrobe with mirrored doors. I had a look at some of the free files on sweethome3d.com for inspiration. In particular, I used http://www.sweethome3d.com/models/contributions/mirror.zip

I opened up mirror.obj in Wings 3D, used the included mirror.jpg file as well as the exact same settings for my own file, then exported to a DAE file (I cannot import OBJ files from Wings 3D, see my previous post), and finally imported the resulting file in Sweet Home 3D.

However, the result looks different. The original mirror looks as it should, but on my own model, the mirrored doors are just plain gray.

Can someone help me? I am uploading a screenshot showing the problem as well as an archive containing the models I created:

Re: Problem with mirror-like texture

I guess you will already have had your reply in post 5297#23236. I quite liked Wings too, but gave up as it presented some oddities in the export. Such as your three export files being quite different.

Just to add, that if you really want to explore mirrors (like in your nice model), there are actually some interesting options. But you should probably get some feel for the Wavefront .obj and .mtl files. The .obj file refers to the .mtl file, which sets the colours for each material and assigns optional texture files for the surfaces. You can play with gradient textures and the shininess of the mirror surface and also how the mirror reflects in photo rendering - see Sourceforge SH3D 3d models 303 (not having done my homework before having a go at a mirror).

Anyway, your model was really nice so it would be nice to see more of those. Good luck.

ok

Re: Problem with mirror-like texture

To achieve mirror reflection in SH3D,it need 3 main steps. cool
1. Object color should be black.
2. Shininess/reflection value should be high.
3. Model should be rendered in high quality means quality level 4. shhh
[PS: Load your model which is in 3ds or dae format. Change Mirror_auv material color to black. Move shininess to high. Render scene in quality level 4 in virtual visit mode.]
