Kitchen layout advice

I am using SH3D to layout my first floor, but am finding it challenging to do the kitchen, and could use some advice on tools/workflow. I found that laying out the components in SH3D is not that easy since there are objects on top of each other, and I can only edit in 2D. For instance, I have a very irregular counter, and created it in Sketchup. WHen I import into SH3D, it's a huge square, and all the floor cabinets are underneath it, so if I want to move the cabinets around, I need to move the counter out of the way, and then put it back when I'm done. Because of the difficulties, I have been creating the layout of all the objects in the kitchen in Sketchup, and importing the whole thing into SH3D, which works ok, but I loose some texture information. Can anyone who has gone through designing a kitchen in SH3D give me some advice on the best workflow?

Re: Kitchen layout advice

Paul,

As you already discovered, the best way to "build" your design is from the bottom up. First put the lower elements in place, than the upper ones.

In the Modify furniture dialogue, pay attention to the check box Invisible, which allows you to put objects out of the way, without displacing them.

If you have problems organizing the layout of your kitchen, you can send me your design.

You shouldn't loose your textures when importing your models, or maybe you've got a problem with a double-sided model. sad
To simplify placing furniture in the kitchen, I would use the shift key very often to toggle magnestism and avoid auto adjustments made by Sweet Home 3D.

Re: Kitchen layout advice

another good hint is to use cut/copy/paste to remove objects for the moment.
this works even better with walls, with are no longer joined together and free moveable.
