hello, i am a new user of sweet home 3d. ht esoftware is really sweet. i run it on my EEEPC under ubuntu netbook remix....
i am using sweet home 3d 2.6 and advanced photo 1.6.. i am not so sure if i set anything incorrect, but i 've got mixed result with this plugin.
- the rendered photo is always dimmed and full of shadow (compared with the ordinary photo fucntion)... even i set ceiling light on only.
- about the ceiling light and sun light on options.. any different if the area being photo is circled(defined) as a room area with ceiling setting to on?
- the time setting seems incorrect, as i set it to 12pm (noon), the rendered area look very dark. my time zone setting to Asia/Hong Kong time.
- is it possible to get the similar bright result as the the ordinary photo function... i tried to keep only the ceiling light on... but still full of shadow... the area being rendered is next to a five window panel, and without ahd light defined. the ceiling of the area is off..
btw, i am looking for a color dropper function, did i overlook this feature.. cuz it looks a very easy and common function which looks missing in this software...
last but not least... i wish all the window or the dialog should be sized for using on netbook... the dialog window of V1.1 is out of the display boudary of my eeepc.. and that of V1.6 looks much better. but still not full displayed.

Re: Advanced Photo feature...
baddog,
Yesterday version 3.0 was published. It's wise to download and install it from the Download page . The AdvancedRender plug-in has been significantly improved and is now integrated in the program.
You have to: - set your location (latitude/longitude), the orientation of your model (where is North?) and the time of your location using the Compass function - set the date and time of day in the render window - decide if you use a sky colour, or a sky texture; the textures may give better results, but can make pictures dark; use a light image
Advantages of version 3.0: - shadows are handled much better now - light can be individualized much better Read more here .
SH3D doesn't feature an eyedropper, but you can easily find and install one (Gcolor2) using the repository.

tks for your reply. so, would the room setting... i meant if the area being rendered is defined as a room with ceiling option on/off... would it make anything diff? it seems without the ceiling the sunlight comes in at the top.. how about the ceiling light next to the area being rendered? would it also affect the rendering result?
sorrie.. where is the repos that i can get the eyedropper? btw... it seems there is no way to recall the color that i 'd gave it a color name... so, is it just a name label? what is it use for?
regards

hanmex... i just installed the SweetHome3D 3.0... it looks that when i set the timezone to Asia/HongKong, the lat/long has been set automatically... and then i set the time local to my zone... would it be a bug in the timezone/time value combo setting.. cuz the rendered photo looks like at night even though i set the time to noon or near...

Re: Advanced Photo feature...
There's no eyedropper in Sweet Home 3D. I know the current color chooser isn't that nice but you'll have to live with it for a while.
Latitude and longitude are set automatically when you create a new home from the time zone of your operating system. Building the list of 600+ geographic locations from known time zones took me already more than one day (there are even some exotic ones for a few small islands that will probably be never used!), and I can't do better as there's no GPS in a computer, and even if there was one, it won't be so easy to get information from it in Java. This means that if the time zone is correct when you create your home, you should check whether the latitude and longitude are correct or not, and if you change the time zone, you must change the latitude and longitude (this is probably your case). Here are some web sites where you can get latitude and longitude of known places: http://www.wikipedia.org/ http://www.racerecon.com/trailrecon/gmaps/Cha...enScraping/scrape_me.html http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001769.html http://www.realestate3d.com/gps/world-latlong.htm Caution: Sweet Home 3D uses decimals of degrees and not minutes/seconds.
