glase pane in door
Hi, I like to have a transparent glass pane in a green door. I found a post from rcheng in 2014 on this subject and Hans Dirkse gave the solution by means of a link. But the link is broken. I tried to reply on the original post, but it does'nt work either. Who can help?

Re: glase pane in door
When you modify furniture you can see the material names that are used. The selected material blinks in the modify materials dialog. Note the material name of the glass and cancel the dialog.
Export the door which generates an .obj and .mtl file. Open the mtl file with a plain text editor and find the material name used for the glass. That is a block of lines that start with the line "newmtl <materialname>". Add a line d 0.3 at the end of that material block. Save the mtl file and import the door by dragging the obj file in your 2D design window. Your glass should now be transparent. You can change the value on the d-line between 0.00 (invisible) and 1.00 (opaque).
If you already have an .obj and .mtl file and know what the material name for the glass is you can just edit the mtl to add the d line file before import.

Re: glase pane in door
Thank you. I can use your method whenever I have a door with a pane in it: then I can select the material and edit the file to make it transparent. But unfortunately I don’t know how to get a pane in a door. I think I first have to put an invisible box in the door; then add a fixed window; and then make the window transparent with your method. Unfortunately the only invisible box I could find doesn’t work on a door, only on walls. So I like to ask for your help again, starting with a standard door and made it green. Which steps need to be taken to get 9 small glass panes (in Dutch: negen ruitjes) in the upper half of the door. Hope you can help me again.

Re: glase pane in door
That is very difficult with an existing door, at least in Sweet Home 3D. If you are lucky you can make the upper panel like glass (d 0.3 in the .mtl file) and add thin boxes to divide the glass into 9 squares.
Without a separate upper pane you have to either create a new door from scratch or remove more of the door to get the upper hole and refill the now missing parts with boxes.
Check out the DodecagonDoors library on my site. It has a few doors with upper and lower glass panes. You can fill in the lower pane with a box and add thin boxes to divide the upper pane into 9 squares.
A door is very difficult for someone who is just starting with Sweet Home 3D. If you can;t get it right, zip your door obj and mtl file and upload it to a file host like mediafire. Post the download link here. Then I will see if I can fix that door for you.
