Modern rugs making a difference in layouts

I have been using Sweet Home 3D to experiment with different layouts lately and one thing I did not expect to matter this much is rugs, especially modern ones.

I started adding a few simple geometric rugs into my floor plans just to see how they looked, and it actually helped define spaces way better than I thought. In open layouts, a modern rug almost acts like a visual boundary between areas without needing walls. I noticed this especially in living room setups where the rug kind of anchors the furniture.

I also like how modern rugs are not limited to one style anymore. You can go minimal, bold, or even something textured and still keep a clean look.

One thing I am still figuring out is sizing. In the software, a rug can look perfect, but in real life it might feel too small or too dominant.

Do you guys plan rugs early in your layouts or add them later as decoration? Curious how others here use them when designing spaces.
