Rendering speed depends on a combination of factors: 1 - the processor of your computer and to a lesser degree the amount of memory available to SH3D; 2 - the size of the image to be rendered; 3 - the number of polygons to be rendered; 4 - the number of light sources present in your design; 5 - your rendering settings.
1 - No surprise here that a faster processor with more cores (or threads) will deliver speedier results. For memory usage see: How can I adjust the memory used by Sweet Home 3D? 2 - Same with size: a 400x400 pixel image will be rendered in less time than a 1000x1000 pixel image. 3 - This one is more complex: 3a - Highly detailed models will take longer than simple models (but will give better results). A 10 MB model of a coffee machine will take longer than a 100 KB model. Trees and other plants tend to have many polygons, so take much time. 3b - The program takes everything in your model into account, whether it's in your field of view or not. So, if you want to make a render of the kitchen, rendering is speeded up if you make models in all other rooms (and levels?) invisible. 3c - Large textures take more time than small textures (but will give better results). 4 - A design with one light source will be ready in less time than the same design with 10 or 20 light sources. 5 - Your rendering settings greatly influence the time rendering takes. Setting quality to level 3 or level 4 makes a big difference. If you want (near) photorealistic results and are using EnkoNyito's plugin, you have more options to improve rendering quality. Setting higher values for "anti aliasing" will increase rendering time considerably.
All of the above have an influence. Only you can decide which factors are more important.

After all the suggestions proposed by Hans, you could also try YafaRay rendering plug-in to speed up rendering.
