How to save 3D shape into furnture library
Is there a way to import a shape (box) made with the 3D Generator Tool into my furniture library so I can modify it to be a window/door?

I want to use the 3D Generator to create a partially transparent box that I can then use to "punch" a hole in a wall.

Yeah, if I understand well.

Import (furnitures, Import) <=> export (select object and right click on bottom right frame) ! smile

Sorry, I don't understand your answer in relation to my question.

I can create a transparent box in my plan using the 3D Shape Generator tool.

But how can I get that object into my furniture catalogue (so I can change it into a window)? I know how to edit it once it is my furniture catalogue, but how to get it in there?

I'm OK with your creation. smile

Two ways :

1. During import with 'furniture' -> 'import furniture' you can choose the catalog (and its name).

2. After creation, to modify it, double left clic on this object on the left upper frame (catalog icons) and a new box window appears...

I hope to have been clear. smile

Ok, maybe I'm not explaining the problem clearly. I'll try to make the question as simple as possible.

How do I get an object from my plan into my furniture catalogue?

'furniture' -> 'import furniture' doesn't seem to do this - it won't import an object from the plan into the furniture catalogue. Try it: first select an object in a plan and then try to import it into the furniture catalogue. If you can do it, please let me know because that is what I need to do.

Re: How to save 3D shape into furnture library
You want to see an existing object in the upper and lower right frames but absent from the category (even all)...
Ok you create a Shape3D object.

For this case, see my previous answer.
Select it, export in OBJ and import it in good category. smile

Re: How to save 3D shape into furnture library
Please, let me add to the confusion and suggest couple of steps:

  • Create shape
  • Select object
  • Export selection as .obj (3d view - Export to OBJ format )
  • Import same .obj file (drag&drop)
  • Check "Add to catalog" in the third dialogue
  • Check staircase or door/window (if that applies)
That will put the object in your standard catalogue. But, when you say "my furniture catalogue" it sort of indicates you have indeed your own catalogue. Which is a good idea, however, you will also need to use the Furniture Library Editor (FLE) to create a separate catalogue (indistinguishable when using SH3D, but can be edited separately using the FLE). Then the procedure is similar, but you shall have to import the .obj file into the FLE and then import the FLE library into SH3D. Using separate libraries is a slight detour, but it also gives you more control over a separate ("my furniture catalogue") library and the models in it.

Good luck - and good week-end.

ok

Re: How to save 3D shape into furnture library
Thank you both for your rapid and helpful replies. It was the "Export selection as .obj (3d view - Export to OBJ format )" step that I was missing, I didn't know the function existed in the 3D view.

Also, I guess I meant my standard catalogue, I didn't know how to refer to it.

Anyway, problem solved, thanks again for your help.
