2040 : Mars TwoDescription of a 'typical' mission The goal: to have a permanent human presence on Mars through sending / return of crew regularly. For this, you need a local environment that is close to that of Earth. To continue the mission, Mars Two will base on conjunction scenario.  A conjunction comes back all 26 months. From right to left : The docking hatch ahead, The Hermes bridge, Hermes rear bridge (main computer) with 2 brake engines, 2 controls attitude ahead, Storage module, Docking main module with 1 MRV, 1 Habitation module and 2 Material modules with their braking shield, Habitation module in rotation, water and air reserves with their shields, the separation sleepers (with solar panels and two antennas, Engines module with their shields, liquid O2 and H2 tanks, and finally the engine module with 2 nozzles. ---------------------------------------- Evil progresses when good people do nothing! --- SH3D 7.1 and nothing else - W11 64b in 4K |

Like in the movies "The martian" or "Mission to Mars", the astronauts live in big Wheel in rotation (3 rpm). Re: 2040 : Mars Two DAY 002 The pair Earth-Moon is far away... The initial thrust made by the H2 / O2 is completed and ISV Hermes rocked on ion propulsion. Its speed is of 21,000 km per h.  Now, you can see (with good eyes ) that the ISV Hermes is equipped with technical structures, 4 radiators, 2 Canadian arms and two observation domes. It is not finished... The crew checked all systems of ISV Hermes (you can see a MMU in front of the Habitation Wheel), MRV, Habmod and Matmod. Re: 2040 : Mars Two A Journey of three months, it's not short, even with a future tehnology. We have some time for lot of long projects. Crew repeats his missions. Here are closer views :  MMU makes his inspection tour, beginning with the front of the ship.  Brake motors being validated, MMU control the controls of attitude.  Direction the upper radiators... oh the MMU has a visitor, a crew member is in the upper dome.  Same thing with the lower radiators, MMU in the shadow of MRV should light his lamp and sees a woman crew in the lower dome. Re: 2040 : Mars Two Space... THE final frontier... Seriously, I've updated the ISV hermes by reversing the solar panels with the antennas. This allows better guide for bigger energy. (see conjunction scenario) When you look at ISV Hermes by the bridge, right antenna is pointed on Mars and left antenna on Earth.  DAY 135  Crew sees Mars which grows in black space... Re: 2040 : Mars Two Here technical specifications of habitation module v2.  1900 x 1400 in Q4 without R1.3.1 If a storm occurs (I saw the movie 'The martian'), an anti-tilt system is set up. 4 cables out of the fifth floor (light gray, base of roof) and will be planted in the ground (like harpoons) ... This module has five levels (with descent engines). 1st : Airlock and a rear cargo 2nd : technical part 3rd : living and sick bay 4th : bedrooms 5th : roof (upper airlock, antennas, parachutes, ...) It can support 11 people ! The pilot inspects MRV before to put it in sleeping. The eight solar panels will give energy to MRV. The astronauts were helped by 'the lifting module' also called crane. The External walls have been made with martian sand. All batteries are ON. News (for Manu): The atmospheric pressure there is in fact only 9 millibars against 1013 millibars on Earth. The atmosphere is so thin that winds of 150 km/h would not make you more impact than cigarette smoke on the cheek... The real danger comes from dust. it contains perchlorate, silica, iron oxide and sulfur in very fine sizes and very static... Middle  2 interior airlocks are arranged at the ends of the module. They are equipped with transparent walls. I made two models : the first is empty (3.7 MB) to can upload it in 3D the second is full (20 MB) to take rendering pictures... Firstly, here the specifications  In the case of solar eruptions, crew can go to garden to protect themself between shielded walls and tanks of water. Top of the ring is the Entertenment room Bottom of the ring is the living, kitchen Left of the ring is the male bedroom with its bathroom Right of the ring is the female bedroom with its bathroom. Imagine the difficulties to create the accomodation ring with SH3D... The central node with 6 entries/exits, the lights, the airlocks, the scales, the portholes,... all in this particular shape. To create the good conditions, the ring turns at 3 RPM. Long life and prosper ! 01/01/2041 : The new year begins well (D 295), the inflatable cupola is OK.  1920 x 1080 in Q4 The crew will be able to live in while creating it. Finish the 'little' accomodation module. The dome is made up of 2 inflatable envelopes: The first outer side (10 mm) is filled with ozone to filter the UV rays, The second inner side (20 mm) is filled with water to protect from other radiations. SH3D (1800 x 900 in Q4) for the model and Celestia for the background. Near 500 MB (uploaded by a friend) for a video of ISV Hermes (640 x 480 for 17 sec), see HERE from YouTube... Departure on December 4, 1996  Picture from Celestia Arrival 7 months after (212 days) on July 4, 1997  Instant of launching : But where should Mars be on launch day ? Mars achieves a full 360° orbit in 1.88 years (or 687.67 days). Formula: Circle × ((DS / DE) / PM) where: Circle (in Deg) = 360 DS = Travel time in days DE = One terrestrial year in days = 365.25 days PM = Relative Martian period in terrestrial year = 1.88 this gives : => 360 x ((212 / 365.25) / 1.88) = 111°14 for Pahtfinder => 360 x ((180 / 365.25) / 1.88) = 94°40 for Mars II We can calculate the relative position of the Earth and Mars. 180° - 111°14 = 68°85 for Pathfinder (validated by first picture) 180° - 94°40 = 85°60 for Mars II Thus, launches are only possible when the Earth is located at 85°60 Behind the planet Mars (for Mars II in 2039). For the houses, they'll need water, electricity and fresh air and all systems to treate trash and recycle them.  1920 x 1024 in Q4 (with martian light). We see only walls and openings. The house has been make by 3D printer in laboratories and builts by the crew. Plan:  Views:  Each house can contain between 2 and 4 members (with 2 more bedrooms in upper level). With new engines, Mars III does its Journey in 130 days instead of 180 for Mars II... So Mars III arrives in 10 days !!!
