Houses Needed for VR Game
Hi Everyone,

Our small VR game design company, Meerkat Gaming is looking to build a collection of houses for our currently in development virtual reality game. We are in need of various styles of small to large single family homes. We are able to take homes designed in Sweet Home 3D and use them in our game engine! If you have any home designs you might like to see placed in the game please let us know. You will be credited for your work!

Homes will need to be empty of furniture (kitchen cabinets and large appliance are OK). Also, doors and windows will need to be just the frames. We will add working doors and windows in the game.

If you are interested in helping out please let me know! I can provide more details and hope of have some test/concept images to show soon.

Thank you for your proposition! Quite intriguing!
Can you tell us more about this game? Is it for young people? Is it a "serious game"? What for?... Etc...
And how will you unify aesthetically all these different houses?

We don't have an official title yet. But, the basic premise of the game will involve sneaking around neighborhoods and attempting to break into houses to look for valuables. Some houses may or may not be occupied, so while avoiding possible residents you will also need to avoid neighbors, police, etc.

So to start we want to build a basic suburban neighborhood of single family homes. Right now our workflow is to create the basic floor plan of the house in sweet home 3d. The basic floor plan being just the walls, cutouts for windows and doors, and the texturing for all the floors, ceilings, walls and roof. We will be putting the doors, windows, furniture, cabinets and light fixtures in the house inside the game engine.

Here are some screenshots of the SweetHome3DExample7 from the gallery I have been testing with.

I can also provide the modified gallery example file so you can see the changes and what is required. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Nate,

It's fun to see the SweetHome3DExample7 example with other textures. wink

At the moment, you can use the 3 houses available in the gallery as long as you respect the terms of the CC-BY license under which they are distributed (see also license page and bottom of the gallery page). Not sure that will be enough for your game though!

This thread still open? I'm working with a few friends on a few things and created a few homes from practicing how to use the SH3D program. I would like to throw our hat into the ring!

I'll put them on online when I get home tonight. One of two I have is a Summer Camp Cabin (the type used on Sweep away Camp) and the other is 2 studios and a 1 bedroom, apartment block made from shipping containers.

3 'Houses', 1 is 2 studio apartments and 1 Bedroom apartment using 4 8ft/20ft cargo trailer boxes; 1 is a summer camp log-cabin with an attic storage area; and the last as a 2 story 1/bedroom house with an attic (counted as the 2nd floor) and a basement. Kitchens and bathrooms are intact but lighting, windows, doors and furniture were removed.

I did run into a problem - there is no "empty window frame" in SH3D, so I used a service hatch and stretched out to make an empty window frame out of it. Hope that works for you.

I also removed the ladder to the attic space in the summer cabin, as it was stretched out and ugly looking; if you use the cabin, I hope you can put a ladder there to access the attic. The texture for the logs used in the cabin I created from searched googled images and photoshop. I have no problems if they are used in the game.

Thanks Elfen! The log cabin is pretty cool. We might have to hide that in a woodsy corner of a neighborhood for a player to stumble upon. :)
