Question about creating best quality video
Hi,

I'm trying to create a video with the best quality option and at the highest resolution option but it won't work out with my current computer. When I try it , it keeps saying that " 3500 image to generate - video duration 3mins ". I have been waiting for it an hour but nothing change, probably need a lot more time to work out.

My question here is that if I want to create a video with all the highest options in a short time ( an hour for example ), what graphic card is required for my case , or any other things for the computer to push up the time for creating a video.

If you want to make a video of 3 minutes at the highest resolution, you should be prepared to wait anywhere betweeen 1-2 days and a month (or two) for your computer to finish making the calculations.
Seen the fact that these calculations are done in Java, a faster graphics card would not speed up this proces.

Try to make one or two testruns of your video at lower resolutions. That way you get an idea of how long it might take.

Let's make a calculation:
- lowest resolution 176 x 132 x 12 = 278.784 pixels per second
- highest resolution 1920 x 1080 x 25 = 51.840.000 pixels per second

That means that at the highest resolution your computer will have to calculate 185 times more pixels. That means, that what takes 1 hour at low resolution, takes slightly over a week at highest resolution.

EDIT
The above is apart from several other factors that strongly influence the time it takes to render your design:
- number and complexity of models
- number and size of textures
- number of light sources (example1 example2)
- number of glass and/or shiny objects

Since it is done by Java, and there are speed up programs, for example My Faster PC, do you think the software is helpful to speed up the java?

After reading their website, I'm pretty sure that MyFasterPC won't speed up Java: it looks like any old program that meddles a bit with your Windows registry, promising that a cleanup makes your computer faster. You have a pretty modern computer, enough memory, so that isn't the problem.

I also searched Google with "Java accelerator" and "Java acceleration" and that gives results that seem more promising. Especially this link points to a page that may be interesting. Now, I know it's about Linux, but generally, what is available for Linux is also available for Window. And if not, just install Linux (Ubuntu?) as a second OS on your computer. Both Linux and the Java accelerator are free, so cost can't be the problem.

It's now bedtime for me, but tomorrow I'll check the above link and see if I can learn more. Apart from that, Emmanuel (our genius) may know more about this topic.

As promised, I delved into the Java Accelerator topic.

It seems this kind of technology is now obsolete. I found a few programs, but no references younger than approx. 2005. If really interested try these searches:

number one - references end around 2005.
number two - this one still might be active, but only for Window (not bad for you), and is a paid program
number three - Metrowerks (the link I gave last night) made a product dedicated to Apple computers.

For the rest I can't find much. I asked a friend who's good with computers, but he never heard of a Java accelerator.

So... maybe you should start practicing patience? Why don't you take up yoga?

Thank you Hans for searching how to accelerate a Java program, but pointing to an article which is 13 years old (an eternity in computer programming) couldn't lead anywhere. Java has made leaps in performance since that time. smile

Anne, you should check first that when a photo is rendered at one of the two best quality levels, there appears 6 colored squares during the rendering process since your processor has six cores. Then, you should try to increase the max memory used by Sweet Home 3D to 1 or 2 GB; this should really help. Finally, you could try the Java 7 as soon as a beta version will be available (this should happen in February).
