SH3D Crash
Hello everyone
I've installed SH on my Dell Notebook with Ubuntu 10.10 and Sun Java 6 Update 24
When i start it, the program crashes..
The output is:
mattia@mattia-laptop:~/SweetHome3D-3.1$ ./SweetHome3D # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xb76f5416, pid=9917, tid=1770965872 # # JRE version: 6.0_23-b05 # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (19.0-b09 mixed mode linux-x86 ) # Problematic frame: # C [+0x416] __kernel_vsyscall+0x2 # # An error report file with more information is saved as: # /home/mattia/SweetHome3D-3.1/hs_err_pid9917.log # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp # Annullato
First i thought it is related to OpenJDK, therefore i replaced it by Sun JRE but neither this nor Java WebStart solved the issue (using SH3D 1.3 is not an option). Then i uninstalled the proprietary ATI/Radeon fglxr driver and SH3D works fine (ok, sometimes hanging 3D view or "tiles" of already closed windows on the desktop, refresh problem of open source driver?). I hope that either the open source driver or Radeon driver will be improved soon

Re: SH3D Crash
Hi Hans,
thank you for the hints but doesn't help. In my previous post i just described the outcome of all my tests. I did already tests and did the following (Ubuntu 10.10 with proprietary Radeon FGLRX driver):
- Starting SH3D ok - Expanding one furniture category SH3D crashes - Starting SH3D again - Now i could expand the same category but SH3D crashes when i try to insert trusted furniture model or when i scroll the list - Using another category same issue, first expand crashes SH3D
Even when i try to draw a simple wall on a new project or try to click one of the menue entries (File, Help etc.) the program crashes.
Everything is fine with std ubuntu graphics driver
This leads to my conclusion that pb is related to radeon driver and it seems to be a time critical / race condition problem which also might differ on different graphic cards (mine is Gainward Radeon HD 4850 GS)

Re: SH3D Crash
Frank,
Obviously Puybaret is the specialist in these matters, but I seem to remember that this kind of crash (after inserting a model) always has to do with the video card or its drivers. So, if one driver is OK, use that one and delete the other. I had a similar problem with Ubunto 9.04, which was solved when an updated Ubuntu driver was published and installed.
