Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

Hello,

I created a home in Sweet Home 3D and saved it, and then when I tried to open it again, the application opened, and the file opened the 2D portion but stalled at the 3D portion until it gave me an error saying:
Sweet Home 3D will now close because of a fatal error in 3D rendering system (or something very close to that).

Upon the advice of various forums etc, I tried installing a different version of Sweet Home 3D, updating to the latest version of Java, updating video drivers (which unfortunately was itself less than successful), but I always get the same effect. I started a new project with just a few walls and furniture to test, and it was created fine, but gave the same error message when trying to open it again.

Thank you for any help and suggestions!

Ubuntu 7.10; Dell Laptop; Intel 845 video; newbie linux user

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

I discovered in the french Ubuntu Sweet Home forum that another user had this same problem, which was resolved by (as I understood it) fixing a problem with Java Run Time. I have installed Java Run Time a couple of times (upgrading to version 6), but this has not seemed to help for me. Does anyone know what I might do to "fix" it?

Again, linux newbie, but learning fast!

Thank you!

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

I have the same type of error and I'm not using Ubuntu nor do I have an Intel Video card.

My system is an AMD Athlon 64 running Mandriva Linux ONE, and has an nVidia 6100 Video card. Latest versions of Java and JRC are installed on this system so if it is a Java issue, then it is with Sweet Home and not MY systems Java (as Mandriva is going to keep such things up to date NIGHTLY)

Could you check if Java 3D demos available at https://j3d-webstart.dev.java.net/test/ work for you ?

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

Hmm, no those do not work either... and I think I may know why. They all use OpenGL - which I've had a problem with before on this computer. I will look into my OpenGL settings and see what might be causing the OpenGL driver to not work with Java - as the OpenGL does work for my screensaver.

If you want I could email you the STRING of error messages..... as there are a lot of them, not just for the ones from JAVA site, but from this project....

Let me know, I just need this to work so I can test before uploading models for this project.

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

Thank you Randal for your help. Java 3D team will probably be more able to help you find out the origin of your problem.
Please describe your error with Java 3D demos and Sweet Home 3D in their forum at https://java3d.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectForumView
As Java 3D 1.5.2 Beta 1 was out a few days ago, it would be nice if they could fix it before the final release.

BTW, why did you post here errors found in .css files ?

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

Not yet, it kills me that applications such as JAVA don't keep up to date with Browsers - Firefox 2.0.0.01 came out over 5 months ago ... (as it came with my DVD install of Mandriva)

Instead of racking my brain to work out why the JAVA won't run, I could have been working out another browser to try to get it to run with... (as this is Linux and browsers are a plenty_)

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

I posted those as THOSE are the ones preventing me from running Sweet Home 3D, and pretty much any Java application that uses a browser..

Re: Fatal Error in 3D rendering system

Just a note:

My system being Mandriva - Automatically updates 99% of all programs I have including JAVA and JAVA Webstart.. needless to say my System updated this morning and I can now run Sweet Home 3D from the Web page - but not yet from my installed version.
