Cannot get windows to have handles inside

I have a plan of a typical flat with thick outer walls and windows set "deeply" in the wall so that their jambs are also inside. And window handles, too, of course. But all windows that I find in the default Sweet Home repository give me handles outside. Mirroring and rotating doesn't help. Please check the images.

This might be a stupid newbie's question but I'm stuck...
Shall I look for another 3D model of the window?

Re: Cannot get windows to have handles inside

I'm not sure if this will get you what you need, but I've done something similar to place windows and doors in a thick wall without the object's depth increasing to match the wall thickness; it also allows me to decide against which edge of the wall to align the object.

Essentially, I size an access hatch to match the outer dimensions of the door jamb, at a depth to match the wall thickness (in this case, 7 inches), and colored to match the wall. I then place the window or door inside the access hatch at the desired depth (4.5 inches) and aligned with whichever edge of the wall (inside or outside) is desired. I group the two together and then insert the resulting group as an item.

I suspect this will allow you to rotate the hatch/window group without the handles migrating.

Probably, but you may have a problem finding a standard model that matches your requirements exactly.

You could start with model files in SH3D libraries, models created with the additional SH3D properties for alignment and window opening etc. If you do not have extended model libraries installed, try SH3D online with a larger collection. Just use the window you like in a file, export it to your PC, and copy/paste the window to the file you are working on.

There are also some additional windows (with SH3D properties) in the SourceForge repository (search window), e.g. 260.

If you cannot find a perfect match in the SH3D model libraries, you can also import model files. When you check window during import, you will only get a hole in the wall and the standard alignment and no display of where window opens.

You can also add the advanced properties to models yourself (see thread 2006), but that does require some extra work and knowledge of models and SH3D properties/libraries (the SVG miniquide has a brief intro, see page 9).

If all else fails, you could post a picture of the original. If it is relatively standard, it is possible that someone has already made it.

ok

Re: Cannot get windows to have handles inside

Mazoola, okh, thanks for your quick reply. And good product by the way.

I could not easily find proper models that I need. But managed to do what Mazoola suggested:

A bit of offtopic. After studying okh's materials I found that my problem is in the models (.obj) indeed. But I could not understand why the windows are modeled this way in SH3D. Found that it's not a mistake of course but really the different ways to construct windows in different countries. See my pictures below. That's what they call "cultural differences" :)

French windows:

Russian windows:

I think I'll try to redo the French model by moving the handle to the other side. These .sh3f and .obj routines seems to be clear enough.

Re: Cannot get windows to have handles inside

I ended up with my own model. Just in case anybody is interested the ready-to-use furniture library containing it is available here:
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B0C-6ovYJL0PYnF1UG54SllDSGM. One can import it in SH3D via Furniture->Import furniture library. Note that I made only 1 window sash (of 2) to open, which is my case.

Sorry if it's not perfect, that's my first experience.

Re: Cannot get windows to have handles inside

Very nice! That's what sometimes happens, you end up making something that fits better.

You can add two window-openings (the 'sash' values), just add the second one separated by space after the opening you have already entered.

You can also adjust the distance to the wall (frame, sill) if you need to. And, of course, use information# and other properties to add notes and such.

Anyway, nicely done. Isn't it a nice feeling having a custom window?

Good luck!

ok

Re: Cannot get windows to have handles inside

Yes, I got it with sashes. Having only one was my purpose (my real windows are like that).

Right, customizing SH3D opens the world of 3D modelling to me :)
