Object in 3D photo problem
Hello
I'm trying to use objects downloaded from 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com. They look good in the normal 3D view, but when I make a photo the models have strange artifacts.
Is this a problem of the model? Do I have to correct the normals? Is there a program that can do it with keeping textures?

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
This looks like a Sketchup problem, caused by one-sided textures. SH3D gets confused and can't choose whether to show the textured or non-textured side.
If that is the case, the solution is not very difficult.
Install Sketchup, download the model in SKP format. Open it in Sketchup, then export it. In the export dialogue, click OPTIONS and make sure to choose "double-sided textures" or something similar. (I haven't Sketchup installed, so I can't check the exact wording.)

yes quite right options then check "tow sided faces"

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
Unfortunately that did not help. I tried various object export formats (kml, obj, 3ds, dae), always with the two-sided textures option set. But after importing in SH3D they showed the same problems as the first model.

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
Had a quick look at the model. It looks to me as if the body surfaces have two different of materials on front and back, and that the back shines through. In which case you probably will need to edit the model with Sketchup. E.g. first try to explode all groups/components, use the material dialogue to select all surfaces with the body colour, use the entity dialogue to apply the body colour to both sides, and export. However, doing this, you may mess with how the car looks on the inside. Also, it is a pretty elaborate model and the process in Sketchup will be slow. And I guess the model will slow down SH3D significantly too. Maybe you can find another Prius model (although, they do not look quite as nice)? ok

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
I already tried ~3 different models, all with the same problem. Maybe I'll try some more before I start mucking around with it.
I don't really need the inside, it's just for a home visualisation. Maybe it would be enough if I just clear the inside textures. As I never worked with Sketchup before I'd need to try out stuff. But it doesn't really slow down SH3D. I now have the full house with various furnitures, some environment and cars. Except for occasional freezes I can work fine. And the freezes I already had from the beginning with a very simple house and just a few walls, especially when changing views or making photos.

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
Come to think of it, there is an easier way. The colour bleeding through creating the disturbance is grey (I think #222222). If you change a few of the grey colours in SH3D to white (or the same as the body colour), the rendering is good. Did a quick test, and it seems it is one of the materials high up on the list. Send you a screendump of the colours I changes (at random). But it worked.

Re: Object in 3D photo problem
Thanks for this trick, I didn't know that I could change the textures individually. I had to eliminate the correct material with false coloring, but it now looks better. I will try the other models again to see if the material distribution is different.
