Problem importing objects

Hello. I have a question. When I import furniture objects in .3dx, .obj or another format, they almost alway come in totally white without their textures. I've read that importing them in .zip format can solve this, but I 've tried that and it didn't work. Meanwhile, in .dae format, I can get the object to import properly with all it's textures. Problem there is, some of the faces almost always end up reversed, causing them to go transparent. Then I am forced to import the object again, reverse the faces in the furniture editor. Then transpose the two objects to get one solid looking object. It's irritating and I know its forcing me to use more memory and resources to build up my scenes when half my furniture is doubled like this. Any suggestions?

What is the source of your furniture files?

Re: Problem importing objects

I am building some of them myself in Blender. Some I have downloaded from various free sites. But I have the same problem every time I try to import in .obj or .3ds format. When I build my own objects in Blender and save them in .3ds or .obj format I have that problem. When I save them in .dae format, they import with their textures intact, but some of the faces are reversed causing me to have to import them twice as described above.

Re: Problem importing objects

Sketchup: during exportation choose Options --> Export two-sided Faces .
Other websites: some websites offer many free models, but don't include textures, resulting in white models.

Re: Problem importing objects

And you can invert faces in the furniture import dialogue in SH3D. I do not know whether SH3D is more demanding than the file-specs require, but I have never encountered such problems if the .obj/.mtl are 'complete' and have all surfaces defined. sorry I cannot be of more help. ok
