How to... 'slice' the 3D view at a certain level
Hello all,
I am a recent user, and trying to modelize my home... I could achieve quite a decent result but I'm still blocking on a specific issue, that I could not fond in the firts 15 pages of this thread category...
My home is made with 5 half-levels, so I needed do define 5 level that have about 1,5m high. The external walls are 8m high, so when I click on a specific level (like 2 - my living room), what I see in 3D view is a kind of "well" with the room far at the bottom. So I don't really see the low levels.
=> Is there a way to 'cut' or 'slice' the levels at any height so that I can represent in 3D only the selected level of the house with low-height external or internal walls ? Is there also a way to do this vertically to show the elevation 3D representation of a part of the house ?
For now, I found a workaround with creating some external walls additive "stacks" that depend of each level (so when I activate any level, I only see its defined walls and those under), but this generates some problems when selecting them, I also can see the horizontal limits in the 3D view and this is not very smart as a solution ...

Arnaud,
In the 3D preview window you can choose between Display all levels and Display selected level. This may (partly) solve your problem.
Ideally, I think, you would make walls on any level not higher than the height of that level. In your case that means each level has 1.50 mtr high walls, interior and exterior. You can easily copy walls from one level to the other. Just select them, then with CTRL-C and CTRL-V paste them in the new level.
There is no way to slice a house vertically to make side-views.

But - as you probably know - Modify 3d view lets you make walls transparent (But a wall higher than the ceiling will still be a pain for all sorts of reasons, as hansmex says.) ok

Thank you for your very quick answers...
@Hans I did try to stack my walls, making them not higher than the level itself, but it raises a 'selecting' issue : Let's say to simplify that my levels are 3m high... Level 0 goes from 0 to 3 Level 1 goes from 1.5 to 4.5 Level 2 goes from 3 to 6 I need to create the walls of Lev0 with 3m height Then I create the walls of lev1 with 3m ; I can do it, but when I come back later to lev1 to select them (let's say to give a color or separate the wall), it selects the wall of lev0 ! => This is because at lev1, the wall from lev0 is present : for the first 1.5m of lev1 I have two merged walls (one from lev0 and one from lev1).
So I will try tonight to create only lev0 and lev3 (so not 'merged' walls) walls and see if it is better like this...
@okh I tried also to make walls invisible, but this feature seems to affect all the walls... and I still would like to actually see them (but not too high).

Arnaud,
Say your rooms are 270 cms high and your floors are 30 cms thick. That makes a total floor height of 300 cms. Double-click the Level tab and fill in these values.
Then draw walls that are 270 cms high. When you draw rooms, SH3D will add a ceiling/floor of 30 cms thick. This fills the gap between the floors, and closes the walls. Also, there will be no overlap, and you can select each wall in the correct level.
