Quite a strange behavior! You probably have two Java virtual machines installed on your system. Unless you perfectly know how to handle this, I would give a try to the installer version.
Hello, I have download this link, unzip and execute and I have the same result. Opens the program and closes itself. With this version I drop the apps, I clean the cache but this not works.
I execute javaws -viewer and in the about version I have Oracle (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
When I execute this file (SweetHome3D) the apps splash is the SweetHome3D but the first execute the java spalsh is the Oracle.
I execute this dpkg -l | grep "java" and this is the software in my machine
