Make 3D model from photos with Photofly
Hello all,
Today I came across this free program of Autodesk called Photofly . It allows you to create a detailed 3D model from a series of photos of an object. The program runs under Windows, but I managed to install it under Ubuntu 11.04 using Wine 1.3.22.
The nice part is that you can export your model as an OBJ file, which you can then import and use in SH3D.

With http://insight3d.sourceforge.net/ it should be also possible to get some objects into different 3D Fileformats..or if you need quicker reults for small to medium sized Objects and cash doesn' t really matter (ok, nevertheless this would be a lot cheaper solution than a real 3d scanner*G*), http://www.david-laserscanner.com/ wouöld be a solution perhaps, too...

Thomas,
I'm very sorry, but I don't remember how I installed it. Most probably, it was VERY simple, because I'm not a computer expert. There's a program called Winetricks that helps installing all kinds of programs under Wine.

Ok, I stopped the trial. The dependencies on .net 4, visual studio and autodesk material library made it somehow impossible to installe. I tried it in VirtualBox on Windows XP no success either :-(
