How do I add furniture or objects I create within a file to the library for future use?

First, thanks again for a very powerful program. I have RTFM'd and searched the forums already. I use an iMac/SnowLeopard.

I would like objects I create or import to be available to use in new files.

I use both imported models and some box models I have created. For example, I created a large box to represent a cabinet called Beast (because it's been a beast to paint!) Beast shows up in the catalog list for only the file I created it in. Since I reopened this file, every single piece, whether one I created or imported, is a Red X . In addition, since I have no ceiling, the "sky" and a couple of the objects are bright red, but others are the correct color.

I tried "Export to OBJ format" but that exports the whole file, even though I had "beast" selected, so that does me no good.

And of course, I cannot save this file as something else, it does not let me, I guess because of the red X 's? (although the App.Support file / Work/ DOES show 2 files saved about 10 minutes ago, but I got the error message when I tried to save it.) It was named save3712791156568509947.sweethome3d

I have looked in the Applications Support directory but don't know where created objects like Beast would be.

Thank you for your help.

Morgan:

To make life easier, make sure you have the plug-in CopyAsNewFurniture installed. Installation is very simple: it's in the FM :-) Once installed you have access to the new command under the button Tools .

Now make your design, or select the model you want to save. When selected use Tools -> Copy as new furniture to make an OBJ of it. Open a new instance of SH3D, insert/paste the model with CTRL-V. Now export the OBJ the normal way and re-import it with the name you want.

If a file shows furniture with Red X, this means the Sweet Home 3D file is incorrect. Under Mac OS X until version 2.4, this could happen when you kept opened during a few days a file where you imported some furniture. I changed temporary files management in the version 2.5 and this case shouldn't happen anymore.
Morgan, before considering your case as a bug, could you tell us if the program crashed at a moment or an other, if you moved files in App.Support folder or if you transfered your file. Most users in your case have problems after a transfer with an email or an USB key.
