Glass Panel

I absolutely love the model home that is on the home page of this site. Where can I find the grey, glass panel that is used as a low wall on the second floor? Thank you

Re: Glass Panel

Hi. If your question is about creating glass, there’s a lot you can do using boxes. To do this, you need to create a box of the correct dimensions—for example, 1 meter high, 2 meters long, and 1 cm thick. Now you need to save it as an OBJ file with a name. This model has two folders and consists of two parts: an OBJ file and an MTL file. In the MTL file (you need to open this folder in a text editor), you need to assign an additional parameter—the transparency coefficient D 0.1—to all six sides of the box (you can use 0.2 or 0.3; it doesn’t matter much, as the glass will still turn out transparent). Now you need to save these changes to the MTL file with the new transparency parameter D added. Then import it back into SH3D and add it to your project. This will be a transparent box; you can now assign new dimensions to it and place it where you want. If this glass partition is to be framed by an opaque material, you’ll need to surround it with a frame made of regular boxes with a texture and color. For the transparent box, assign a color (for example, green, like bottle glass); then the glass will be colored and fully transparent. If you assign a texture, the glass will be matte and translucent in the color of the texture. You can easily achieve the same effect using a wall—you can set transparency directly there. Create a wall, save it as an OBJ file, and import it back as a transparent model; you won’t need to change anything in MTL. A wall allows you to create a curved glass shape.

Re: Glass Panel

Creating your own glass panel is very simple:

Resize a box to the size of the glass you want.
Export the box as "glass.obj".

With a plain text editor edit the .obj file.
- change the first line starting with "g " to "g glass".
- change the first line starting with "usemtl " to "usemtl Glass".
- remove all other lines starting with "g " or "usemtl ".
Save and close the file.

Now edit the .mtl file.
- Remove everything and add this to the file:
newmtl Glass
illum 2
Ka 1.0 1.0 1.0
Kd 1.0 1.0 1.0
Ns 48.0
Ni 1.45
d 0.2
Save and close the file.

Drag the glass.obj file into your 2D pane: there's your glass panel.
Since it is a simple glass panel you can resize it and change the color.

For more information about the MTL file read my manual The MTL file explained .

Re: Glass Panel

Thank you both. I hope to try it later today.
