This programs is fascinating and I'm excited to get all my ideas down in a way that can easily be communicated and spacially correct. I have a property with 2 houses and a garage and was trying to figure out the best way to plan the levels and what not.
In total there's a couple big elevation differences. The street and alley are at different elevations from the earth and the alley ties in with the garage. One house has a room that's the same elevation as the yard but then steps up into the actual unit. I haven't checked but I doubt the house floors line up elevation wise. Like the main house would have the second floor 14' off the ground while the coach house might be only 12' or something.
Hopefully that explains why this is hard to see what's the best direction. I'm just wondering is there like a guideline for what should be it's own level / 2 levels at the same elevation (for floor thickness) and what should just be done with boxes/ some other makeshift method.

Re: Property with multiple houses and floors
Use levels if it concerns placing walls and rooms (floors). Other elevations you can do anyway you want. You can also use two levels with the same elevation which allows you to make one invisible. For example one with the walls and floors and a level at the same elevation with the furniture.
You should read my manual Levels Explained . With two houses with different level elevations the number of levels can get high fast. You might find the plugin Level Tags Manager helpfull
