Sweet Home 3D weird behaviour

Hello,

my name is Martin and I'm new to this forum. I've been a satisfied user of the app for many years, built many homes in it and desigend lots of stuff that I've actually built in real live as well.
So let's just say, I'm no stranger to the application.

That being said, I've moved to a new pc last year, which runs Windows 11.. and since then, Sweet Home 3D does not behave as it should. The program won't start, takes a long time to load (even with almost empty projects), takes even longer to shut down (usually I have to use Task Manager to kill the process), the 3D view in a separate windows didn;t work (app would crash).. when I try to adjust measurements of furniture, I suddenly get a popup to upgrade to Pro.. and most annoyingly: the furniture in my models won't load properly, they appear with an hourglass (loading) logo instead of the top view of the model. I've looked for a solution, but none of which I found did work.

Some info:
-reinstalled Sweet Home 3D
-made sure I installed 64 bit version (7.6.3 built 1543)
-Java is up to date (3D version 1.6.2a)
-OpenJDK version 11.0.18
-in the About section i can see 14.1GB of memory available
-my pc has an i9 cpu and 32 GB of RAM, and I don't run anything heavy alongside with Sweet Home 3D

The not loading of the furniture is weird, it seems to work fine, they load when I just started the program, but after a couple of minutes they won't load anymore. I can see the models in my left pane though.. and this is only about the standard models, not even about imported ones.

Now I've read something about adjusting the memory in an ini file (the xmx line), but I can't even find the sweethome3d.exe anywhere, I can't find it in the 'regular' Program Files folders, so not sure in what folder to place the ini file in.

Does somebody recognize what I'm dealing with? Can anybody help me out please? Any sugestions?
Thanks in advance.
