A room within a room... that folks can stand on...?

I want to draw a room inside a room.

A 16' foot tall wall at back.

An 8' square "box" against the back wall.

Stairs on either side of the box that lead to a floor that people can stand on.

A railing up the stairs that cross the box....

A door into the box below. (The box is a room within the room.)

I can draw the walls, but I can't put a ceiling inside the box that will be a floor on top of the box. Is that possible with Home Sweet Home 3D?

Re: A room within a room... that folks can stand on...?

You use a new level to create the second floor.
You can download the project here to see how it's done.

The level will make a character stand on the elevation of that level. You can build whatever you want under it. If you leave it empty the character will float at the set elevation.
You can use walls and a room but instead you can just use an (elevated) box if you want. A room has the advantage that a staircase can cut a hole in it but a box displays a texture better on the sides.
To really understand how levels work you can read my manual "Levels explained" at Dodecagon.nl

To keep it really simple you can use your 8x8 box. If you drag a character to the top of the box it will automatically elevate to the top of the box.

Re: A room within a room... that folks can stand on...?

Hello

Here is my try:

What you have to do is:

Draw independent rooms for each one of them to show a ceiling or a floor, exclusively (it will be better explained soon).

This project has two levels (and a basement I added only to take the "from below" picture).

You must not consider the big room as one high level, but a two level room. The small room is located inside the bigger, but reaches only the first level.

The bigger room has floor only when it coincides with the second storey of the small room.

The floor of the small room is totally inserted in the floor of the bigger one. DRAW INDEPENDENT ROOMS FOR THEM. If you want they look the same, just apply the same texture.

The floor of the second level of the big room must be invisible, but you have to draw one for it to show the big ceiling of the big room.

CONSIDER:

Draw first the room in the big room first level (shown here with grey tiles). Press Ctrl+Alt+E to open the properties. Able "display floor" and unable "display ceiling". Add textures and Click 0k.

Copy and paste that room you've just created in the second level of the big room. Select it. Open the properties dialog and unable "display floor" and able "display ceiling". Click 0k. You'll have both the floor and the ceiling (shown in my example as synthetic wood) of the big room.

Go again to the first level. Draw a new room only for the small room. In its properties, able both "display floor" and "display ceiling". I chose cheese for the floor and oiled wood for the ceiling. Remember: The height of the small room coincides with the second level, that is the invisible floor of the big room.

Copy the room you've just created in the first level and paste it in the second level, to be the floor of the mezzanine. In the properties,
able "display floor" and unable "Display ceiling" or it will draw a horrible square in the big room ceiling.

If the small room disappears when you add the mezzanine floor, just elevate 0.2m the height of the second level. It happened to me.

IMPORTANT: Draw always first the lower level rooms and make its copies to have ready the floors and ceilings. An then draw all the upper level's rooms and so on. This is because, new rooms hide below rooms, and you'll rack your brain if want to modify something in a lower level room that is below another. You won't find it and will make a mess.

By the way, I suggest to add in the wish list a layer feature for rooms . "Send to bottom" a "bring to surface" feature. I'd love that.

Final trick:

When you copy and paste items in SH3D, delete the first copy you did paste. The next you paste, it will be in the position you need to comfortably move it with the keyboard.

I hope to have been helpfully.

Here is the project

It is dropbox, just download it.

I apologize, I wrote Cheese instead of Chess (floor). I must be hungry.
