Sorry, I wasn't clear. I had already found the solution. What I had not seen was the selector at the top of the right pane that switched between levels. I posted it for others reading the thread.
I also now understand what the roof generator does --- it creates both a new level and a roof sitting on it. I was quite perplexed for a while changing the elevation of my roof, because the level appeared like an unmoving base of the roof. (The roof unfortunately has a minimum height of 1", so one cannot make it flat.)

This wasn't the case for me. When I selected the plugin, it only allowed me to set the height, and even that didn't transfer upon insertion.
For my needs, it may well be simpler to just take the plain furniture box from "miscellaneous", change its dimensions, and lift it to look like a roof. That also makes it easy to angle it.
