Creating a door in Blender
Version 7.5.11 on Win 10 pro Hi all, after searching hi and low I've been unable to find an appropriate set of louvered bifold doors for a closet, so I decided to make one in Blender. So far I've made the door frame, so to see if I was doing it right, I exported it as an .obj and imported it into SH3D, clicked the door or window box, and upon putting it in my house, it plopped right into the wall. However, the empty space in the frame is still a wall. Is there somewhere I can go to learn how to accomplish my task? Any pointers? Is creating one's own furniture covered in the user guide? Thanks in advance for any hints or tips. They'll be greatly appreciated.

Re: Creating a door in Blender
A door or window is a special object in Sweet Home 3D. You have to create a Furniture Library and add your model to it. You need the Furniture Library Editor to create a Furniture Library or to add your model to an existing library. In the Furniture Library Editor you can change the property "Door or window" to indicate that your model is a door or window that should snap into a wall and create the hole. Import the library in Sweet Home 3D (menu->Furniture>Import furniture library) and your door will appear in the catalog. Now it will snap into the wall and create a hole.

Re: Creating a door in Blender
I must be missing something obvious; quite frustrating. I made a doorframe in Blender. I exported it, along with its associated texture files, as a .obj. I zipped the files. Imported the zipped file using "Import Furniture". Checked the "Door or Window" box. Made sure the dimensions were correct. Dragged the doorframe onto my house, where it nicely snapped into the wall. Everything perfect, except for that one tiny problem; The hole formed by the doorframe is filled with wall. Please what am I missing and/or doing wrong?

Re: Creating a door in Blender
If you are sure that you checked "Door or window" when importing the model than the only problem I can think of is that your door isn't closed at the bottom. Try again with a sill that closes the bottom.
By-the-way, The advantage of using a Furniture Library instead of a regular import is that you can set additional properties for models. For a door you can set a wall distance so that a decarative border remains outside of the wall. Otherwise the door will fully adjust to the tickness of the wall.

Wow! I was wondering about the thickness issue, but was concentrating on one thing at a time. You just cleared up my next question. Thanks! Also thanks for the clarification on the library's additional properties. I'll try that. I really appreciate the help. Oh, by the way, I did put a flat plane on the bottom on my second attempt thinking that closing the loop might help - maybe I failed to attach it correctly to the frame. I'll fix that and import with library. Thanks again.
