Help on angled doors please?

Hello there!
I’m new to this form and to Sweet Home 3D and I was hoping I could find some help with a problem I’m having, please?
I’m trying to make sliding doors with diagonal angles at the top left and right. I read the tutorials that I found and managed that much, but when I put the door in place, the wall still displays a rectangular frame leaving triangular openings where the diagonal corners of the door are.
I found a few explanations of this and instructions on how to fix it, but they seemed very sparse and vague And when I tried to execute them, it didn’t work for me.
Can anyone please help me with this?
Thanks!

Re: Help on angled doors please?

It's not completely clear what you want to create. I understand you want a hole in the wall with the same angles as the door and then have that door sliding (in?) the wall? Or in front of the wall like barn doors? And do you want the door to slide with a deformation on a rail?

Basically you get a rectangular cutout because the outline of your door object is rectangular. Create door posts around the door with the same angles and nothing else sticking out. Or add the door to a furniture library where you can set a custom cutout. Warning: this is not the easiest model for someone just beginning with Sweet Home 3D but it can be done.

The image you tried to display is a link an image on your local drive, that doesn't work. Upload it to an image host like mediafire or imgur and use that link in your post. Maybe the image makes it clear what you want to achieve.

Oh! Sorry about that. I was having some trouble posting the pics. The doors don't have to actually move. That detail may have been a distraction. Here's a pic of the door I've made so far and the issue I'm having. Let me know if this makes it clear.

Re: Help on angled doors please?

Did you import the door and checked "Door or window" in the import dialog?
If you didn't that might solve the problem.
If you did the object is actually rectangular, in other words, there is something in the corners instead of empty space causing the hole to be rectangular.
It is also possible that you didn't close the bottom of your door. Add a sill so the outline of the door is a closed form.

You can check how this works:
Drag a triangle into your 2D pane and turn it so the slope is on the right or the left. Select and export the triangle. Import it and check "Door or window" in the import dialog. The triangle now is a door. Drag it into a wall and it will create a triangle hole and the depth of the triangle will become the same as the wall thickness.

Re: Help on angled doors please?

Shoot. It keeps happening. I went back and deleted the other files I had for the door and rebuilt it from scratch, changing it a little in the process.

I did import the door and checked "Door or window" in the import dialog.

As I mentioned, I started over from scratch and I can't find any small bits of wall or anything in the corners when I built or saved the file. Here's a pic of the latest attempt.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'close the bottom' but I did create another wall at H:3" with a Thickness of 1/8" because I thought that might make that part disappear at the bottom of the door. I then went around each part of this doorframe and joined any walls that I could.

I didn't try your suggestion yet because I had a question about it; Is there a difference between building with a wall and a shape like a box or a triangle? I made another object for this project and most of it is made out of walls but I noticed the part that wasn't stands out with a different kind of finish even though it appears to be all in one default color when I check.

Any thoughts?

Re: Help on angled doors please?

I'm seeing a similar problem happening now with the brace supports I'm working on and I'm not sure why. I made them mostly using walls but also using a cylinder for the round part together, but now each part that sticks out from the back wall has these two white corners on both sides of the cylinder. Is this related to the problem I'm having with the door?

Using walls or other object shouldn't make a difference. After you export and import a wall it is no longer a wall but also just another object.
But you do have a problem with your level heights. Look at the left circle you drew. The object is not on the floor but floating. I suspect you have multiple levels in your project but have set the wrong elevations/floor thicknesses. There's a manual on dodecagon.nl that explains how levels work. Check it out.

That said, the objects should not display a white floor under them unless you deliberately created them. Which you probably didn't.
If you can upload your project to mediafire.com and share the download url here (or send me a PM with it) I can take a look at it to determine what is happening.

Re: Help on angled doors please?

Oh, the level heights for the rounded parts coming out of the wall are intentional and they're all the same. I'll check out that manual. No, I didn't apply any 'floor' commands in making these. Yeah, I forgot that I can just upload the file with a link. Check it out and let me know if you can see what it is I did wrong here.
Thanks!

Re: Help on angled doors please?

It was only three obj files so I can't say anything about the levels but you mentioned that it was intentional so that should be ok.
Next time don't forget the mtl files that go with the obj files. Without it Sweet Home 3D will import an object with a single gray material named "default".

The white corner problem is easy to solve:
When you export you can choose Export all or Export selection . You exported all, which means you also export the ground and that is the white corners you see.
Select the parts you want and export only the selection.

Re: Help on angled doors please?

Oh! Well this is a lot I didn't already know, and I wouldn't have figured out the thing with the corners at all if you hadn't said anything, so thanks! I also didn't know about needing both files to share but that's helpful. Here's a link to the updated pics if you're curious but I think the problem is what you had said about importing everything rather than just the selected items. I'm pretty sure that was the problem but I'm going to try reimporting them to check in a bit.

I did find that Star Trek thread and it would be helpful so thank you for poitning it out, but none of those links work for me in his thread. At some point he said that there was a new link but that one also led me to a dead end. If you have any working links for his stuff, I'd appreciate it!
