confused Create stairs in 2D

Hello!

I really love Sweet Home 3D, but I'm missing a feature. Perhaps I just haven't found it? I want to be able to make stairs in 2D like the attached picture. Do you have any tips for me? Take care, y'all!

Re: Create stairs in 2D

Look on the plugins page and download the Staircase Generator.

Install the Staircase Generator plugin. With that tool it is very easy to create your staircase.

Re: Create stairs in 2D

I think the OP may be referring more to the symbolic 2D representation rather than the 3D object. I know Dorin had some big thread about symbolics, and some furniture libraries that included diagramatic elements.

Try reading here .

Re: Create stairs in 2D

Re-reading the initial post sjb007 might be right and KalleLevin is looking for a 2D symbol to show in the 2D pane.
The information in the linked post is basically correct but the features of the Furniture Library Editor have progressed so far that it is no longer needed to manually edit the library. You still have to create the images you want of course but then you can add these images to an invisible cube in the library as the plan icon.

First create the invisible cube by copying the following into a file invisibleCube.obj:
# An invisible cube
# Created by Emmanuel PUYBARET / eTeks <info@eteks.com>
# Published in public domain.
g Cube
v 0.0 0.0 0.0
v 1.0 0.0 0.0
v 1.0 1.0 1.0
v 0.0 1.0 1.0
f 1 2 1
f 3 4 3
Or download the .sh3f file sjb007 linked in his post which also contains the invisibleCube.obj. You can extract it with a zip program. (no mtl file for this one.)

I can't test it right now but from the top of my head this should work:
Install and start the Furniture Library Editor. In the preferences check modifiable and visible of the plan-icon property. It's near the top of the list.
Drag the file invisibleCube.obj in the library window or use the toolbar button to import the file. The object is added to the list of objects. Now you can edit the object (ctrl+E or double click the item) and set the icon and plan-icon to the image(s) you created.
You can keep adding the same invisibleCube object and set a different icon and plan-icon image. Each time adjust the size of the cube to match the proportions of the plan-icon image.
Save and import the library in Sweet Home 3D and you have your own 2D symbols.

You can use different images for the icon and plan-icon. The icon image is what you see in the catalog pane, the plan-icon is what you see in the 2D pane. There's no need to create tiny images. You can create bigger images but remember to resize to cube to match the proportions. After you dragged the symbol from the catalog in the 2D pane you can always resize it.

Re: Create stairs in 2D

Thank you, friends! The "Dorin thread" was what I was looking for :) I do real estate photography on the side and just needed some simple way of showing stairs on the 2D plane.

Take care, and happy sketching!
