Feat. Req: Layers for different things
Hi
I have used Roomarranger in the past. A feature I would like to see in SweetHome3d: Layers. You shoudl be able to place things on specific layers: I create a layer windows -> I can place all windows on this layer. Same with furniture. The pros: I can enable or disable the view of layers. The cons: None?

Please note that at least, grouping / ungrouping furniture is available since Olaf wrote his message.

SH3D is a program that is VERY actively being developed. However, there is just ONE developer: Emmanuel Puybaret. In the last six months the program has seen many new features, most of which in response to wishes from users.
The focus of the program has always been on ease of use and interior design. If your interest is more in the area of architecture, than there may be programs that offer more features. Maybe you have seen the multilevel tutorial, which offers a layer workaround.

Re: Feat. Req: Layers for different things
Hans,
Very impressive tutorial!
Myself being a shareware author of a wine cellar book I am well aware of what it means developing software and I very very very much appreciate the work done by Emmanuel on this program.
I have used other 3D/2D CAD applications before, but they are all way to complicated for me and basically require that one knows how to draw things - I am very bad at that and the approach of SH3D works much better for me.
I am not looking to design a house, but have smaller projects I like to be able to plan. Currently it is a wood fired bread oven (see below for links) and doing this I found that being able to "hide" things would be very handy. E.g. I have it all designed with the roof on top, now I like to make some changes, which means I have to move the roof and other elements away to be able to get at things.
O.K. the roof I figured out that I just need to group it and hide it, but I have a similar issue with a wall which hides things.
All frankly no big deal but if I would use SH3D more often and for larger projects I think layers (or "visibility groups" ) would be very nice and useful to have.
Thanks again to Emanuell for having created this and also to you for being an active Forum member giving tips to others.

Tip: Combine the elements of the top of your oven into a group. Then make the group invisible. or Tip: Alternatively export this part with 3D View --> Export to OBJ format and re-import it as a separate model. or Tip: Use the new feature Tools --> Copy as new furniture .
Tip: To make elements invisible use the Furniture list (the bottom left window). Search the element that should be invisible (CTRL-A selects all elements) and modify the visibility status in the edit window (double-click or right-click to open the menu).
Tip: Check the attachments list to find a round wall, as featured in your first link.
Tip: Order the furniture list by clicking one of the column headings. You can change which columns are visible by right-clicking and choosing Display column. Often I find it useful to see the Elevation column and sorting furniture by that column. That way the highest elements (the top of your oven) will cluster.
I hope this helps towards overcoming some of your problems.
