Re: Select Hide Utility plug-in
Hi Dorin,

I saw you mention this plugin in another thread and thought "Oh. That sounds useful as I try to deconstruct my plans to try and produce acceptable planning drawings.

Unfortunately it does not work for me, although it might just be me.

Plugin installed, show an Edit menu item and a tool bar item, but clicking either one does nothing. No error message either. Just nothing.

I don't have the conflicting plugin the text mentions, and I'm running latest (7.0j)

Have you tested it with 7.0?

Re: Select Hide Utility plug-in
I just tested the last version and it doesn't work when there is no level in the home, with the following exception:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "com.eteks.sweethome3d.model.Level.isViewableAndVisible()" because the return value of "utility.SelectHidePlugin.access$6(utility.SelectHidePlugin)" is null
at utility.SelectHidePlugin$1.execute(SelectHidePlugin.java:108)

Dorin, I hope this will help you to fix this bug.

Re: Select Hide Utility plug-in
Thanks Emmanuel. I never even thought to test with a real file. I was just trying to check the plugin out on an new file with a few bits and bobs and never thought to add levels.

Re: Select Hide Utility plug-in
Hey All
Select & Hide Plugin v1.7 is now posted on sourceforge

The Select & Hide plugin adds powerful selection, visibility, and hide/show controls to Sweet Home 3D.

Selection Tools

Select Walls
Select Rooms
Select Dimension Lines
Select Labels / Text
Select Lines / Arrows
Select Doors
Select Windows
Select Stairs
Select Lights / Lamps
Select Other Furniture
Select Multi-point Polylines
Invert Selection
Option to apply selection to all levels or only the current level
Select furniture by name or description
Multiple search terms can be entered for more precise matching
The selection system also handles furniture groups and their child objects while preserving level information.

Hide / Show Tools

Objects can be hidden by category:

Walls
Rooms
Dimension Lines
Labels / Text
Lines / Arrows
Doors
Windows
Stairs
Lights
Other Furniture
Multi-point Polylines
Additional actions include:

Hide All Selected
Show All Hidden
Hide furniture by name or description
Apply operations to all levels or only the current level
Smart Text Search

Furniture can be found using text entered in the input field. Searches are performed against both the furniture name and description, with multiple words supported.

Level-Aware Operation

Selection and visibility operations can be restricted to the currently selected level, or applied across all levels. This makes the plugin particularly useful for multi-story projects.

Safe Hide / Restore

Hidden walls retain their wall-joining information so that restoring them can reconnect the original wall relationships. Polylines are also restored in their original order.

Undo / Redo

Hide and show operations are integrated with Sweet Home 3D's Undo / Redo system, allowing visibility changes to be reversed and reapplied.

User Interface

The plugin provides a dedicated dialog with two tabs:

Select

Category selection
Select all levels
Invert selection
Text input
Hide / Show

Category-based hide controls
Hide selected
Show hidden
Text-based hide/search
The plugin also supports a modern FlatLaf interface when available.

Highlights

A fast and flexible way to:

Select large groups of objects
Hide unwanted objects while editing
Work efficiently with multi-level homes
Find furniture by name or description
Temporarily simplify complex floor plans
Restore hidden objects without losing important wall/polyline relationships
Undo and redo visibility operations

Re: Select Hide Utility plug-in
New version 1.7 and on Source Forge . Also, on PluginManager
- improve the LaF of tabs under macOS
- add translation files for all available languages with Claude AI help
- fix a bug that occurs when selecting items from furniture groups
- improving the identification of doors based on their elevation, in accordance with the DIN EN 17210 standard (< 20mm)

Let me remind you of the purpose of this plugin:
It is designed to improve SH3D’s functionality regarding item selection.
It selects only the items that belong to the selected level. Why?
We often see elements on the current level that belong to lower levels. Selecting them separately becomes difficult and can also lead to unintended selections.
Also, sometimes we want to select only certain items for deletion or copying.
This plugin is designed to help with that.

You'll find it under the “Edit” menu and as an icon (green with an “S” on it) in the toolbar.
