3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Been using SH3D on my laptop for ages...all fine. Suddenly 3d view is slow yet task manager shows no problems. I thought my model had grown too big but not even a single wall renders and rotates freely! I even tried reinstalling...

Could a Java or app software upgrade have stuffed things up...its become unusable now although planning works fine.

No known issues wit the laptop which is relatively clean and virus free.

Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Although not sure if this is the same problem reported by NickV, I'm using the same thread as the topic at least seems to match.

I cannot tell from what SH3D version or when this started to happen, because I've not used much SH3D lately, but I noticed the 3D view performance is now poorer than some time ago.

To test it I used the file "SweetHome3DExample7.sh3d" from the gallery. I must apologise for the image quality, but I recorded the videos with the my smartphone so any "leaps" or frame drops observed could not be caused by an screen recording software.

First, just to get a rough idea of the graphics card performance (an ATI Radeon HD 4300), this is a video of an ATI demo released for the Radeon 8000:

https://youtu.be/BEnYqSrj3Z0

Of course I don't know how complex or simple is this demo compared to the 3D representation of the example 7.

Now, the next two videos show the virtual visit mode and the aerial view in the desktop application:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgOD65_Prac

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTUUh1vvi2Y

And the next two videos show the virtual visit mode and the aerial view with the file loaded in the HTML5 viewer launched by the "3D animation" button in the gallery:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM4YvIWByi8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz8S58DWAbc

As you can see there's a big difference in performance between the two viewers.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Hi NickV Hi Hal
I have been experiencing similar but i assumed it was my pc or rather its graphics card struggling with the file size or the amount of information it is having to calculate whilst panning or dragging an object across the window. Mine becomes so slow i often have to close sh3d and restart it. When the project is basic, walls, roofs etc. i can pan, spin and drag with the same affect as viewing a html5 exported home, once i have a couple of rooms full, all goes pear shape.

Hi.

I have the same problem. SH3D has become slow, very slow, since the last Windows update, specifically were 3 updates:
1.- Windows 10 v1607 (KB4015217)
2.- Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)
3.- Adobe Flash Player v1607 for Windows 10 (KB4018483)

I'll really appreciate your help to get a solution.

hal9000, please install Java, download the Jar executable version of Sweet Home 3D, and run it with the following command in a cmd window:
java -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.version=1.5.2 -jar /path/to/SweetHome3D-5.4.jar
(to get easily the path to SweetHome3D-5.4.jar, just drag and drop the file in the cmd window).
This will run Sweet Home 3D with an older version of Java 3D. I wonder if it will work better in your case.

I just tried on a fresh Kubuntu 16.04 with the latest SH3D version and just the same (or even slower) than Windows with the 3D view, while the movement is also fluid in the HTML5 viewer.

Is there any way to use in the application the same rendering than the viewer?

The HTML5 viewer uses an HTML5 canvas and is programmed in JavaScript, whereas Sweet Home 3D is programmed in Java. Even if it should be possible to view an HTML5 canvas in a Java application, it's the kind of mix I won't try. I hope to find an easier and more consistant solution!

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Hi,

This is my first post, so first of all thanks for this fantastic program, which is making my home remodeling project so much easier and better!

I think I have the same issue that for a couple of weeks now on my win10 notebook the 3d view "stutters". i.e. you can turn the model for maybe 10° an then it (the whole program) will freeze for 10-20sec and then resume. Every time I manipulate the 3d.
Impossible to work with.

I could narrow this down a bit further: I noticed that the objects I inserted into my model (bed chair table etc.) would not be visible in the 2d view but will show a "clock" symbol, signifying the program is loading the bitmap. This however seems to take forever and seems the reason for the poor 3d performance. Like the program is always busy loading the bitmap, at can't perform the 3d operations.

If I create a new model, walls only, it works just fine. Adding e.g. a single bed will start the freeze up.

I hope this will help finding a workaround as I dearly need the program for ongoing remodeling of our new home...

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi! The same issue on Windows 10.

The solution for me is to use Java Web Start version of SH3D. Found it in FAQ. Here's the link to this version: http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp

Don't know what's the differences compared to standalone. Seems pretty much the same.

Hope this helps! smile

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Just spent a few evenings trying to find a cause for this issue.
With my recent project "slightly more modest" open, and a "new" project open, i started cutting from the existing to paste into the new.
I found that when i moved objects imported from 3rd party software, sketchup, saved then closed both projects, reopened existing project and found an immediate improvement, my thought on this, for what they are worth, are that there appears to be an issue in the way sh3d uses the texture/colour of each imported object. Not a fault with sh3d, more so, a better awareness by users as to what we are importing.
Also, an improvement was seen when i "cut" all forms of lighting, raised the question, is sh3d now trying to calculate lighting/shading at times other than rendering.
These are very basic tests that i have tried, as i have no technical knowledge of programmes or programming, hopefully they can help those that do.
Mike.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Let's try to find out the origin of this slowness. As Java and Java 3D were updated in the recent versions of Sweet Home 3D, I would like you try the following tests with an example of the gallery and with a file of yours:
- Try first Sweet Home 3D 4.6 that uses Java 6u45 and Java 3D 1.5.2.
- Then try Sweet Home 3D 5.0 that uses Java 8u51 and Java 3D 1.5.2.
- Then try again Sweet Home 3D 5.4 that uses Java 8u51 and Java 3D 1.6.0.
- Finally, install last update of Java 8 32 bit (jre-8u131-windows-i586.exe) and run Sweet Home 3D with Java Web Start.
Be sure to display the About dialog at each step to check the Sweet Home 3D and Java versions you run, and if it's in 32 or 64 bit (the used Java 3D version is displayed only from version 5.3).
In your final report, don't forget to mention also the Windows version you use and the graphics card with possibly its driver version.

By the way, if I request to try with an example of the gallery too, it's because I know that some Collada files like this bush are extremely slow to handle in Sweet Home 3D (even after removing the lines that surrounds the leaves in Sketchup).

Many thanks for your patient efforts smile

Guys
I did manage to cope with this problem, at least so far.
I simply installed again (without any uninstalling previous version), JAVA 3D (java3d-1_4_0_01-windows-i586).
My SweetHome3D was horrible slow, after reinstalling JAVA and restart computer (Windows 10) everything came back to the normal speed ;)
Additional information. I installed Java 3D API 1.4.0_01 from this website http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase...html#java3d-1.5.1-oth-JPR however when I check Java version in SweetHome3D there is: Java 1.8.0_51/64bit/2,6GBmax and Java 3D 1.6.0 but everything works perfect.

Good luck and hope it will keep my SweetHome3D running in good condition.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Hi Emmanuel
ty and ty
I unistalled 5.4, installed 4.6 but could detect no difference in performance when panning (rotating) the 3d image, same for 5.0 and back to 5.4. I have no idea what the 4th instruction meant, sorry.
I am including here, if i remember, a link to a sh3d file, 30mb uncompressed, it contains the items i cut from "modest house". If you wish to see the difference in performance, simply pan with the 3 beds and closet racking in position ,on either floor, then cut them and pan again. All 3 versions reacted the same to removing the objects textured by a 3rd party prog. this would suggest to me that the problem lies outside sh3d, i also noted that the affect is accumalative, the more copies i pasted the worse it got.
Good luck
Mike

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
I guess I won't have the time to run the suggested tests in the near future but I would like to add that "stuttering" in 3d happens with any standard object I add. No fancy textures no nothing, only a "bed" which is contained in the standard desktop version will cause the problem.
My file is otherwise also really barebone no textures or anything, as I'm using this for planning the modification of the ground plan. My file size is around 2mb.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
OK, let's keep in mind that the program was running perfectly for months until, suddenly, it doesn't. That's not a graphic card problem but something in the interaction btw win10, java and sh3d has changed. Or course, this change may have caused sh3d to be 10 times more demanding on the graphics card, but that's sill a software problem.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
I tried again the installer version (coming with Java 8u51) and the Java Web Start version (with Java 8u131) in 32 and 64 bit under Windows 10 Creators Update on two different computers (an Asus T100 and another one running under Parallels Desktop), and didn't notice any slowdown in the 3D view.
Let's wait for the the release of the first updates of the new Windows 10 version before concluding it's Java or Sweet Home 3D fault. By the way, I would be very astonished that the suggestion to install Java 3D 1.4 made by vinylspeed could make the program run better, because Sweet Home 3D always tries to use the Java 3D version provided with it. Running the program with Java 3D 1.4 can't be made without changing running options in an IDE, and it's not what he seems to have attempted (but still thanks for trying)!

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Emmanuel,
It feels like this is another poor graphics driver update bundled with windows 10.
I wonder if you could ask everyone who's had this issue to try with webstart, as that uses a different exe from normal java
http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp
If that goes ok, then that tells us it's probably driver related.

The last major issue relating to drivers was the generic 1.2 driver which normally stopped everything from working, so I presume this is not that exact same issue.

Possibly checking the old d3d driver performance might help, but it's not easy, if someone with the issue could run this:
open powershell on windows
cd to a "Program Files (x86)" version of Java (which for me was)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_131\bin>
then run sweethome3d from there with the following command:
./java "-client" "-d32" "-Dj3d.rend=d3d" "-Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.
version=1.5.2" -jar "<your path>\SweetHome3D-5.4.jar"

Notes:
you have to use ./ or the normal java runs
you have to use all the string quotes or powershell doesn't understand
you have to use the -client version and all the other options mentioned or it will not load the java3d1.5.2 d3d drivers

If anyone with the issue could run that, and confirm the speed is ok, then it is almost certainly opengl drivers failing to load.

Also it might help if everyone who's had the issues reports what the graphics card in their machine is, by opening powershell:
wmic path win32_VideoController get name,driverversion

Thanks,
Phil.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
My problem concerns only the desktop version. Web version runs nicely.
Another curiosity: I usually work in split secreen. There every manipulation of the 3D takes about 10sec. to be executed. So I move the courser "blindly" on a frozen 3D model and 10sec. later I get the rotation.
However, I then switched to "show 3D in seperate window" and I could move and turn it perfectly, for about 30sec.. From then on (and even after restarting sh3d) it's also have the 10sec. stall. Btw. sh3d never crashes or slows down the pc or anything, it just takes 10sec to change the 3D and upon starting takes forever to "load" the bitmaps of furniture (all standard) in the 2D.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
I'm still waiting for anyone with the issue to assist in debugging it by running the 2 command line steps I mentioned above. If we can reliable say that it's the Intel driver on windows 10 bug (and many people have suggested configurations that don't match this) then I can look into a solution.

If someone with the issue also has it with directx, then we will know it something entirely new. If someone with the issue doesn't have Intel drivers, then we know it's not that. If someone with this issue also has it under WebStart then we also know it's not the issue I'm thinking of. However I have never come across another issue like this, other than the Intel driver bug in many long years, so without more debug information it'll be slow going to get a fix done.

Regarding your particular issue, I can't really explain the brief speed up you got when switching to a separate window. But the super slow 3D is perfectly explained by software rendering (which is what it appears people machines are falling back to). The 2D view being slow is expected because the top down icons are created by a one frame 3D render from above. You could change to the catalog icon for furniture in the preferences if you like, but obviously that won't help much.

Sorry it's taking a long time, but I don't get the issues, and I don't have an old Intel GPU laptop to try to reproduce on.
Phil.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
Could not make heads tails out of the requested test, but with 9.17.10.4439 HD3000 it seems that some times it works for 20 minutes just fine then not - a restart of the program or even the PC does not seem to matter if it is going to work or not - it just sometimes works for a while and then not. Memory management issue I would think - it is not laoding up the PC at all - I have a ton of resource not being used - it just seems to not make use of the memory for the program (sometimes) like 85% of the time. I have 8gig of 1333 ram it is not making use of anything. No expert but a guess.

Tried Win10/64bit thingy with an i3 processor. OS just updated through numerous cycles. Confirm that whatever updates Win10 has been up to, has now rendered SH3D so slow that it is practically useless. CPU usage pretty normal, but SH3D (Java Platform SE binary) appears to eat up more memory than it used to(?) Most operations in SH3D are hopelessly slow and 3D window only responds after having

Seems i am now stuck with 10 and hate it more by the hour.
Issues persist and get worse, not only is panning around the view virtually impossble as the image can take minutes to catch up once i have anything other than walls and windows, i cannot use colors as they are no where near a match, i have to use textures now the render times are hugely long (hours for external views)or, more often than not, fail to complete, left with random black box's.
Sorry to say i am going to have to give sh3d a miss until the java or windows conflict can be sorted.

Seven was an old OS for PC.

Re: Poor performance on desktop application 3D View compared to HTML5 viewer.
@ bdfd W10 makes my pc look like some sort gimmicky phone, i dont use apps i use programmes.

Anyway, 10 was no improvement for me, i have now tried 3 different versions of sh3d, no joy, completley removed all trace of sh3d from pc and started fresh with no plug ins or tools, didn't realise i would lose my own library items though sad ,then gradually reinstalled the plug ins and library items.

I have now noticed a fairly strange difference between virtual and aerial renders :-

Virtual ...... with wall colour but no textures

Aerial ....... with textures but no wall colour

All other settings remained exactly the same.

Any idea why this might be?

I tried with reinstalling Java. It looked from the beginning that problem has gone but unfortunately still exists. What is interesting sometimes SweetHome works perfect, sometimes is very slow. Have no clue why it varies?
It is already 3 months since first error report and still no solution :(

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I have the same problems that everybody else discribes but only sometimes on Win 10. Some days it works without any issues. I can always tell when there will be an issue because the furniture does not fully load and the grey hourglass remains isntead of showing the furniture. Then I know there is no point in even trying.

I just had it again a few minutes ago and decided to try the Java Web Start and there I have no issues. That is at least an easy work around for the time being for me.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I could confirm that with Windows 10 newest pachtes, SH3D with built-in Intel HD 4000 graphics (Core i7 mobile QuadCore) is very slow suddenly (at least aeral view). Some months ago aerial was fast enought. Reinstalling Java does not speed up. But I configured the graphics software to use NVidia NVS 5400M graphics for java instead. This is working fine, aerial is fluent now.
Also the webstart variant is working fine (tested before I switched to NVidia graphics).

New beta 5.5 b11 is still slow using Intel HD 4000 graphics with Windows 10 up-to-date. Also startup without a project is extremely slow, because of aerial view is starting (first black screen then gray).
Using powerful graphics NVidia NVE4000 (1GB Graph-RAM): Fast.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Can you check if the Java Web Start version you tried was running under 32 or 64 bit architecture (look at About dialog box)? If it's running under 32 bit, please install Java 64 bit too and run Sweet Home 3D Java Web Start version with it, to check if that version runs correctly too, because I suspect an issue in 64 bit graphics drivers.
To force a Java Web Start in 64 bit, run the following command:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin\javaws.exe" -J-d64 http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp

You're right. When I use Java webstart 32Bit the aerial is fast. The same with Java webstart 64 Bit is slow. Before I had to give a rule to NVidia to prevent jp2launcher.exe running with dedicated graphics.

Two days ago I downloaded SH3D. The 3D view is sluggish.
I run Win10 on my computer.
SH3D'S "About" windows says
Java 1.8.0-54/64 bits
Version Java 3D 1.60
When I start with the launcher "SweetHome3D.jnlp" the 3D is running perfectly smooth.
How can I fixed that?

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I tested the beta and it did not change anything for me. I can also confirm that Webstart runs 32 bit and normal as 64bit per "about" dialogue.

I tried to fore 64bit for webstart with the command below, but when I checked the about it still showed 32 bit and it was still fast

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_144\bin\javaws.exe" -J-d64 http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp

The easiest way to tell if it is slow or fast is when I load a file and all the furniture just has the clock symbol on it, then I know it is slow even without trying the 3D view. It then takes maybe 5 seconds for each piece of furniture to go to it's rendered color in the plan view.

Luckily webstart still runs fine.

Before I uninstalled the Java3D the version in the about dialog is 1.6.0.
After I uninstalled Java3D 1.5.1 the version in the about dialog is the same (1.6.0).

same for me with 64 bit mode extremely slow and installing and uninstalling did not change anything (only Webstart 32 bit worked)

borbelyimi
Then I installed the Intel graphic driver and the 3d view is good! I think the Java3D is unnecessary, but I didn't uninstall it.

This finally did the trick! After updating the Intel Graphics Driver, I can work in normal desktop mode with 64 bit again! Looks like the Intel Graphics Driver could not work with Java 3D 1.6 in 64 bit mode.

Thanks borbelyimi for finding this solution!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
In Sweet Home 3D 5.5 released last week, I added the 3 following options to Windows installer to let you choose the Java 3D version and architecture used by the program when there are some problems:
/os.arch=x86 will force the installation of the 32 bit version of Sweet Home 3D under Windows 64 bit
/j3d.version=1.5.2 will force the installation of Java 3D 1.5.2 (default Java 3D version until Windows 7)
/j3d.version=1.6 will force the installation of Java 3D 1.6 (default Java 3D version from Windows 8)

To use these options, simply execute the installer in a cmd window followed by the options of your choice separated by spaces. For example:
C:\SweetHome3D-5.5-windows.exe /j3d.version=1.5.2 /os.arch=x86

For people not used to commands, this can be achieved this way:
- Press <Windows> + R keys
- Type cmd and press <enter> key
- Drag and drop the icon of the installer SweetHome3D-5.5-windows.exe in the command window
- Type a space in the cmd window
- Copy /os.arch=x86 /j3d.version=1.5.2 and paste it in the cmd window
- Press <enter> key.

From you last comments, using Java 3D 1.5.2 after updating your graphics driver might be enough to run Sweet Home 3D under Windows 64 bit, in which case you could first try to run the installer with the option /j3d.version=1.5.2

I'm looking forward to reading your comments to be able to modify the FAQ accordingly.

For some reason after a few days the old problem was back even though I didn't change anything. However, I had to replace my laptop this week and with the new one, also running Win 10, Java 1.8 and Java 3D 1.6 in 64 bit mode, everything worked fine right out of the box.

Good news, problem solved, bad news I won't be able to test the changes to the installer.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Hi,

Running SH3D after a long period without using it, seems I'm hitting the same issue: it's abnormaly slow.
For example, trying to draw a wall on a new project takes something like 5 seconds.
Sometimes it even takes longer for the wall to be drawn on the drawing area than on the 3D viewer.

I'm running Arch Linux on a Precision 5510, with i5-6300HQ Skylake CPUs, 16Gb of RAM.
Graphic card is a Nvidia GM107GLM (Quadro M1000M).
I've a 4k screen (3840x2160).

I'm running Java through OpenJDK 1.9:

java -version
openjdk version "9"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 9+181)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 9+181, mixed mode)

Java 3D version is 1.6.0.

SH3D version is 5.5.2:

Here is some of my attemps to workaround the situation, but without luck:

- using OpenJDK 8
- java -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.version=1.5.2 -jar SweetHome3D-5.6.jar
- ./javaws SweetHome3D.jnlp

Any idea what more I should try/check to understand/fix the issue?

Thanks for your hints!

Yohan

Many thanks to Emmanuel! The /j3d.version=1.5.2 option works for me. Not dirty trick anymore, just adding the Sweethome3D.l4j.ini with changed options and everything works fine. In my case no performance issues with Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator, Driver 9.14.3.1177 and Windows 10 32bit, 1607.

Many thanks again!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Quick follow-up:

- I've tested SweetHome3D on a fresh Ubuntu 17.10 install, and it frozen when I started drawing a wall (tried twice)

- back on my main computer running arch, I've tested SH3D version from 4.6 to 5.4, here is the summary

    * 4.6: responsiveness OK, HDPi support NOK (click is shifted, icons are two small, drawing grid is too small)
    * 5.0: responsiveness OK, HDPi support NOK (same)
    * 5.1: responsiveness OK, HDPi support NOK (same)
    * 5.2: responsiveness OK, HDPi support NOK (same)
    * 5.3: responsiveness NOK (oops), HDPi support OK (yay :))
    * 5.4: responsiveness NOK, HDPi support NOK (click is shifted, icons are two small, drawing grid is too small)
    * 5.5: responsiveness NOK, HDPi support NOK (same)
    * 5.5.2: responsiveness NOK, HDPi support NOK (same)

So, seems something is going on with 5.3 release. Given this release fixes the HDPi support (for me), it may be that the responsiveness issue is related.
Strangely, starting from 5.4, HDPi support is broken again (for me), but the responsiveness isn't fixed.
Sadly, from this quick investigation, I see that there is no release with both responsiveness and HDPi support for me.

Any hint out from those new elements? Anything I can test out?

Thanks :)

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Tried to run 5.3 version without 3D view (adding -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.no3D=true argument), but the responsiveness issue is still present.

Also tried to pass -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.resolutionScale=2 to version before 5.3, but it does not seem to apply.

Posted by ybon at Nov 18, 2017, 4:38:19 PM
Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
OK, adding all those parameters, I can run 5.2 with HDPi support and a normal responsiveness:

-Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.resolutionScale=2 -Dswing.defaultlaf=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel -Dswing.plaf.metal.controlFont=Dialog-12 -Dswing.plaf.metal.userFont=SansSerif-12 -Dswing.plaf.metal.systemFont=SansSerif-12

:)

Still interested by a fix to be able to run the latest release though :)

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
From a recent discussion with Java 3D maintainers, there seems to be a solution to run Sweet Home 3D under Windows 10 64 bit on old Intel processors with integrated graphics.
If you continue to get the driver error at Sweet Home 3D launch in 64 bit, you should simply download
https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveSer...80582/legacy-igpu-x64.zip
unzip it and execute the install.cmd it contains.
Please, try it and report how it worked for you.

Hi,
have the same problem right now.
Using Windows 10 on a Laptop with Intel HD Graphic 4000.

The 3D view is laging as hell and i installed Java 3D after this it seem to befixed for around 15 Minutes. The 3D View worked nice but than lags again.

If i load a saved project i can see that the models on the 2D view take much more time to load as before...

I dont know what to do now. Have tried Puybaret tip with the legacy igpu thing but without any effect.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
That worked for mee too. I just added a slight modification due to the version number and ran from comd line:

SweetHome3D-5.7-windows.exe /j3d.version=1.5.2 /os.arch=x86

in order to reinstall from scratch my new SH3D version. While my previous 5.7 plain installation did terribly slow down on 3D rendering, this installation mode competely fixed any issue.

I operate on a laptop with Windows 10 home 64 bit and a 3 years old Intel core i7 cpu.
I also noticed that after reintalling SH3D, it reserves just one third RAM than before.

So, tx a lot!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Maybe this helps others, but when I completely hide the Plan pane, the 3d view window suddenly is a LOT faster.

So, when I drag the divider between the 3d view and the plan view completely up, to hide the plan view, performance dramatically INCREASES... It's a bit counter-intuitive and it suggests that the 3d drawing is not the problem, but the 2d is...

- Drag and drop the icon of the installer SweetHome3D-5.5-windows.exe in the command window (except I used the 5.7 downloaded installer)
- Type a space in the cmd window

- Press <enter> key.

PERFECT!!

Opening a cmd prompt and reinstalling helped make the program 6.1.2 run properly but this should be the default of the installer to automatically apply these settings based on your machine specs. so my cmd line looked similar to

c:\downloads\utilitys\SweetHome3d\SweetHome3D-6.1.2-windows.exe /j3d.version=1.5.2 /os.arch=x86.

Just was a hassle to install this way, like i said it should have been click install, enjoy building

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Detecting the machine specs is too complicated: it depends on the version of the system and of the graphics drivers, and before all, I don't have the means to test all the possible combinations.
Anyway, from version 6.0, selecting the 32 bit architecture option in the installer just installs Sweet Home 3D with the same command line options you cited, and this choice is the default selected one under Windows 10 64 bit.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Even installing with these parameters, Sweet Home 6.2 is still terribly slow and unusable. I think we've some serious bugs here.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Same problem here, although i'm using Win 7, 32 bit. Always worked like a charm. Just started using the program again after a long time. Updated to the latest version and the program becomes jumpy and then soon impossibly slow. I thought the problem is with my modest hardware, and somewhat complex model (using the editor to make custom "brick" units cobbled together into see through wall portions). But it seems more people have experienced the same lately.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Try an older version like 4.6 which used another version of Java and Java 3D. If you see no difference, it's probably not an issue in Sweet Home 3D.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I tried it. Works a little better, but still much slower than i remember. All the more complex elements were blacked out though, on account of missing functionality between the versions i suppose. The newer version is just bearable with all that "fluff "made invisible. It seems there's a very fine margin between somewhat slow and impossible slow, at my end. I tried some for the solutions mentioned through the topic, but so far no luck. Perhaps it's a sign i need a newer PC, but seeing other people suffering the same is intriguing.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I had this issue in Windows 10 64 bit and two things seemed to improve it. I switched to the app store version of the program and performance improved slightly. I increased my computer memory (DRAM) from 8gb to 32gb and that vastly improved things. I noticed the issue was more pronounced with textures (specifically floor, and likely ceiling and wall although my file doesn't have those). Disabling textures improved performance. I think increasing DRAM must have helped load the textures.

YAY!!! This finally fixed it ... from the developer in post on Aug 6, 2017 4:09:07 PM ... run in cmd line:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_221\bin\javaws.exe" -J-d64 http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Hello,

The issue has been fixed on my side by installing the plugins "AdvancedSettings_PhotoRendering-1.3.1.sh3p" and "PhotoVideoRendering-1.8.zip". You can find them here: "http://www.sweethome3d.com/plugins.jsp".

Good luck :)

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Vij974, I’m happy you like this plugin but it doesn’t act on the 3D view, just on the rendering process. Could there have been an update in your system that speeds up Sweet Home 3D?

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Emmanuel, I did not made any update on my computer. In fact the 2D object rendering and also the 3D rendering where very slow since a while.
I discovered then the plugins so I wanted to test them (not to resolve the issue but just to test the plugin), so without any other change but after installing them the rendering gone well by miracle. I don't know what really happened but that's what I experienced and that's why I put this comment.
I understand that there is maybe no link between the plugin and the 3D view but that what resolved the issue on my side.
Good luck to everyone.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
This is now happening to me. I've been away from the program for a while, so I updated when prompted. Now it's so very slow. Same laptop, same specs as before. Use the Java Web Start fixes it, but then I can't use the 'copy as new furniture' plug-in.

Was it ever figured out how to fix this without the Java? I tried the cmd line mentioned and it didn't change anything.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
ETA: I'm a doofus, i was installing the wrong version. I forgot that this laptop is 64 bit for some odd reason. Seems to be working fine now.

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I'm running into this slowness, and none of the posted suggestions have fixed it for me. 2 other computers (Windows 10 and Mac) in my house can run this program wonderfully, but on my Windows 10 desktop PC, the 3D views are awful. The "awfulness" seems proportional to the number of 3D objects being shown.

"awful" = There is a delay between panning camera w/ mouse and the 3d view showing it. Also extremely low FPS (about 5 FPS I'd guess).

My system specs:
Windows 10, AMD 1100T processor (pretty fast back in 2011), AMD Radeon R9 200 GPU, 16 GB of ram

My initial installation:
Running version 6.2
Java version 1.8.0_202 - 64 bit (bundled JRE it looks like)
Java 3d version 1.6.1
3d view (virtual visit) is "awful".

I tried the web launch method. Using system java, JRE 1.8.0_144.
> javaws.exe -J-d64 http://www.sweethome3d.com/SweetHome3D.jnlp
3d view (virtual visit) is "awful".

I reinstalled with command line options for java 3d 1.5.2 and 32 bit.
3d view (virtual visit) is "awful". To experiment around a bit more with my cabin model (which displays fine on another Windows 10 system):
Panning the aerial 3D view is "awful".
Panning the aerial 3D view, but only displaying 1 floor of my cabin (mostly just walls, windows, stairs), is about 30 FPS.
Panning the aerial 3D view, display all floors+furniture of my cabin is about 2 FPS.
Deleting everything in my model and drawing a bare room with 4 walls, panning the aerial 3d view is 60 FPS smooth, no lag (hence my "proportional" comment at the top).

Update system java to java version "1.8.0_231". Run app via jar (java -jar SweetHome3D-6.2.jar)

Running via jar, hiding the 2D view speeds up the 3d view.
Same behavior as "experiment around a bit more with my cabin model" above.

Does anyone have any other things I can try? My system can run 3D games just fine. The other Windows 10 system in my house is using the same versions as my "initial installation" above. Thanks!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I'm a new user and have designed a multi-level home on the desktop version of Sweet Home 3D, all the while with a huge delay whenever I used the 3D Aerial View or Virtual Visitor, so much so that I rarely used the 3D features. I am running Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 7000 Laptop running an Intel Core i7 processor with 16GB RAM. To my knowledge, I don't have Java on this computer. Then one day, the 3D started running instantaneously! I would make a change in the plan and it would show up instantly on the 3D model. In aerial mode, I could change the view any way around with the mouse and the image changed instantly as I moved the mouse. It was a real pleasure using the program. Then I think I closed the program and the next time I started it up and reopened the same file, back to unworkable slow. I have no idea what happened or why the 3D vastly improved for a day! Would appreciate any tips. Thanks

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I had similar issues on my Laptop with an on-board Intel HD graphics card as well as an on-board Nvidia GeForce. 3D view in SH3D was terribly slow, it took abot 20 secs to render a single image.

At the same time, I noticed in my NVIDIA monitor application that the graphics card was not used at all. So all 3D calculations had to be done by the not-so-fast Intel HD card!

I opened the NVIDIA system settings, there "3D settings" and there was an option "preferred grahics processor" which was set to "automatic. I changed this to "NVIDIA high performance graphics processor".

There was also an option "OpenGL rendereing processor" which was also set to "automatic". I also changed this to "GeForce".

After that, the 3D view in SH3D was lightning fast. I also noticed in the NVIDIA monitor application that there was now a java process using the graphics card.

This means that the "automatic" settings that were set before didn't automatically choose the fast GeForce but the slow Intel HD card to do the rendering!

So always make sure your graphics card is actually used for rendering the 3d view in SH3d and change your grapphics card settings accordingly!

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
I'm having the same problem with the Microsoft Store version of Sweet Home 3D. The 3D View is super slow and sometimes becomes blank.

I remember when it used to be super smooth.

My PC Specs:
Intel Celeron Dual core @2.6 Ghz
Intel HD graphics
4GB Ram
Windows 10 1903

Loading my project take sooo long. The imported extra objects seems to be to problem.

When I chance the objects it takes MINUTES to refresh the 3D screen...

My screen: http://www.sysprofile.de/id143122

How can I force the app to take more RAM ? I have plenty but its not used :/

Re: 3d View suddenly impossibly slow
Hi to all
My laptop has 2 GPU: intel 4000 & Nvidia 960m
So I set up to run sweethome3D with nvidia and 3d view works with this GPU (as I could see in task manager)
While 3d section in split view in the main window all works smooth and fast. No glitches etc.
But when I open 3d view in separate window (Ctrl+Alt+Y) then rotating, moving virtual visitor become slower with noticeable glitches sometimes. Look like separate window isn't optimized...
Is there some truth in my hypothesis?
