Making counter tops
How can I create counter tops?

If I lay out cabinets and put a dish washer between them, how can I create a counter top that spans across all surfaces in a uniform way?

In my mind, if I could "elevate" a floor, it would work, but I see that is a future request.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: Making counter tops
A box may be the easiest way. Trouble is when you want sinks or other appliances buried in the counter top. But basically you can use the same approach as in your previous post (thread 6611) - boxes really are very useful objects.

Re: Making counter tops
Emmanuel describes making a counter top using just that method (e.g., creating a floor of the right size and shape) in the second comment of this thread; he even provides a demonstration plan to show how it's done. After creating th floor, you export it as an OBJ model and then import it back in as furniture.

That thread describes some issues I ran into while using a similar method of creating counter tops: Instead of using a floor, I created a wall of the correct shape and size, exported it, and imported it, rotating the counter to its correct alignment during the import. I had problems getting textures to map as I wished, and the first post in that thread explains in excessive detail the various approaches I tried.

I had to jump through such hoops because the counter top was not rectangular. For the two other counter tops in that plan's kitchen, I did as OK suggests and used boxes, scaled accordingly.

Hope this helps!

@ somuchfun

You can elevate a floor simply by creating a new level and elevate it to 86 cm over your kitchen floor. The thickness can be set to 3-4 cm, and you can design and re-design your counter as much as you want without have to go through the export/import-routine every time you want to try a different placement.

To get a sink to make hole in the counter, you just group it with an invisible box (staircase), and then you can move it around on your counter as much as you like.
