User Interface and Text Too Small
Hi, I downloaded the newest version due to a seemingly added way to scale the user interface. Everything has been almost to small for me to use. However, I don't see any way in the preferences to make the text and icons bigger. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Please see the section Support for HiDPI screens in this article. I would be pleased to know how it works for you.

Re: User Interface and Text Too Small
Hi and thanks Puybaret,

I'm pretty darn techy, so I got it working by just throwing guesses at this, that happened to work out, lol. I read the article 3 or four times and just could not even figure out where to get started. I have a LITTLE experience in hacking around PHP but that's all. I wanted to tell you my personal experience, I'm not sure what you plan on doing in the future with this. But one thing I have a passion for (and do a bit of small side work in) is usability for computer/website users, so I cant help but to put my two cents in. lol

My assumption was, when I downloaded the upgrade, that would see some way in the preferences to scale the UI and text. Most software that is doing UI scaling is giving the user a percentage slider, or drop down boxes with "big, med, small", or some other way to handle scaling the UI right within the program. This applies the scaling in realtime. When I read the article, the first thing I did was scratch my head, lol. Not what I was expecting.

So when I finally had time to figure it out (today), the first thing I did was try to find SweetHome3D.l4j.ini somewhere in the installation directory. I also had to guess where the directory was, though my first thought was correct. I didn't know if it was /program files, or /program files (x86). It was not clear that I had to create this file myself. Also, I had issues with windows not letting me save the file I did create in Notepad into the install folder because of admin privileges (which my user is an admin, but go figure :)

So I moved it from the desktop into the folder. I still had to click on an additional dialog for privileges, but it did move it. I threw in 1.5 as a starting point, and initially thought it was too big. I had to close the program, edit the value, and reopen to try the different settings. I ended up right back at 1.5.

The program was kind of delayed at getting started, such as not being able to display everything at full screen window, for a few seconds. But after that resolved, on first glance it seems ok.

The UI size is MUCH BETTER!!!!! Thank you for the implementation. :)

My guess is though, that a normal user is going to have a hard time understanding what they are supposed to do to implement the UI scaling. I would add into the article step by step directions. I hope the feedback helps in some way.

Thank you again! Now, no more eyestrain while building my craft room!!!!

Re: User Interface and Text Too Small
Thanks for the detailed report, and glad you made it work. Maybe you should have tried first the easiest solution that consists of installing Java and run the HiDPI Java Web Start version.
Note that this is a temporary solution while waiting Oracle updates Java, and it's the reason why I don't think I'll add the scaling slider you expected.

Re: User Interface and Text Too Small
That's probably because I didn't understand that solution was the easiest :) :) In any case it's good 'nuff for now.
