A house I've been working on I'm fairly new to this forum (not to mention the software) and after working on this for a while I thought I'd share it to see what others think of it. If it's not accessible I apologize. It looks like the file is downloadable. http://www.mediafire.com/download/dn2qa94o6dn...Castle_Redraft_Alt_2.sh3d ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I just realized the "inspiration" picture didn't seem to load to MediaFire so I found it again online. ![]() I think I'm getting the hang of using MediaFire. Re: A house I've been working on I still haven't figured out how to edit posts here, so I forgot to mention previously that the front is supposed to have Tudor style detail (exposed beams creating the detail as seen on the "inspiration"). ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I've done some more work on the outside of the home, although I'm not sure what to do about the backyard. http://www.mediafire.com/view/kj51ila5knb6x0k...edraft_Alt_2_20160101.png I've also taken a few pictures of the interior (nothing of the second floor at the moment). Re: A house I've been working on I've gotten some of the backyard done. I've linked up the back of the fence (cleaning up the spacing as i went, that took some time) and created a pergola (sort of) covered patio. I've also changed the compass direction so that the house now faces west instead of south. ![]() Does anybody know how to add a conical shaped roof? ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on ..a conical shaped roof? There are some in SF 3D models. At least in in ticket 330 you will find simple roof models of a half and a quarter cone (to the right in the file called roofs_bnl_dormers_extra.sh3d). Maybe they can be of use?ok ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Thank you for letting me know of that. I tried using the rounded roof, but the shape I'd used to make the entryway didn't quite work with that. However, I was able to use the triangular shaped roofing - on half of it because the rest of the house wouldn't let me fit any for the rest of it - and came up with this: .I've also taken a new picture of the front room at a slightly different angle (instead of from the front door looking to the side door, it's more from the corner near the front door looking to the opposite wall): .You can see that there's some interest out the side door as well as the opening to the kitchen/dining room area. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I've done some modification to the front entryway. ![]() I made the roofing taller and realized that I could add some pieces of roofing to the back part of it (which is why the shadow of the roofing is as good as it is). I also changed the outer walls of the the entryway using the texture for large rocks; yes, it's marked as a floor texture but I figured it worked just as well here. Now it really looks like a castle entrance. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Here are more pictures; these are from Level 1 (second floor). Here's the Main Bathroom. It's the first room as you come up the stairs from the first floor. This is the view from the door. This is the view from the corner near the toilet. ![]() As you can see I've also had trouble with the lighting of this room. I'm not sure why the bathtub area is so dark in the second picture though. Here's one of the bedrooms. It's located right next to the bathroom just as the hallway makes its first bend. When I tried to take a picture from the door, not much of the room's content was visible; I ended up taking the picture from the corner near the windows, facing the door, with the closet just out of view on the left. Here's the Laundry Room. The cabinets in the back of the room are for storage of things like the vacuum, brooms, mops and such. ![]() The ceiling is actually supposed to be the same white as the walls but the shadowing seems to have left it darker than intended. Here's the Family room. This view of the Family room is from the hallway. This view of it is from in front of the couch. As you can see, in the hallway is bookcase for some storage as well as display of decorative things. The closets visible in the hallway are for linen storage and other belongings. Here's the other bedroom on this floor. ![]() The bit of wall on the left is the closets for this room. I'll be posting pictures of the final floor as soon as I get them all taken. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I have the final pictures taken. First, the Sewing room. This is from standing in front of the computer. You can see the stairs and the doors to both the Master Bedroom (left of the stairs) and the Master Bath (right of the stairs). This is from the other corner of the room. This is the Master Bathroom. ![]() This is from the door coming from the Sewing room. I don't think I did this wall very well, but I wasn't sure how to do it better than this. This is from the door coming from the Master bedroom. This is the final picture. It's of the Master Bedroom from the back wall near the closets. I think you can see from behind the TV unit the beginning a small hallway which leads to the door to the Sewing room. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I decided to rearrange Level 0; I didn't feel it worked out quite right. Here's my changes: As you can see, I switched the Guest room and Bathroom with the Kitchen and Dining area. The door partially visible on the right is to the Guest room now. I also changed the fabric pattern on the pillows and added new lights to the Front room; its basic layout hasn't changed though. I'm up in the air whether or not to open up the stairway; if anybody has an opinion either way please let me know. This is the view from the chair in the opposite side from the Front door. Here you can see that the closet no longer jets out from the front door but now is part of a small hallway to the garage (the garage door is kind of visible) and actually is double in size. I figured that one side would be for guests and the other would be for residents. Here's a different view of the new hallway to the garage. As you can see, it's now more like a kind of open mud room. There's a bench for sitting down to take off muddy shoes and a table with a bowl on it for putting keys into. ![]() Here you can see the few changes I made to the Front room: two more lamps, fabric change to the pillows and some additional artwork. ![]() The new Guest room. Not much to say about this; it's basically the same as before except no bookcase, no door to the bathroom and a bigger closet. Oh yeah, and a TV watching cat... The new Bathroom. I apologize for the lighting on this one; once again I had issues with it. It's kind of hard to see but the toilet is there in the bottom right corner. I used different tiles in the shower and changed the color of the glass to the shower. I also used a different vanity as I had given myself a smaller area for the sink and mirror. And finally, the Garage. Since I had to change the placement of the door to fit the changes to rest of the level I figured I'd take a picture from a different angle than before. And in doing such, I realized why I had had trouble with the lighting in here before. I'd used the blue light source. So, I changed that to the lighting that's visible in the picture. Now the actual color I'd used on the car is visible as well. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on While thinking about it, I realized that I hadn't taken any other pictures of the outside of the house other than the one front angle. So, here goes. This is a little bit of one of the sides of the house. It had been previously only hinted at in one angle of the front room. It's what's on the opposite side of the the side door. It's a little sitting area with a dog house. Two different views of the back patio, each from the different corners of the fencing. I'm still working on figuring out what to put into the patio area. One thing I'm thinking on adding is a grill and another sitting area, but I'm just trying to figure out where exactly place them. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on So, I've come up with a little something for part of the backyard patio area. As you can see it's an outdoor kitchen. Nothing spectacular. I've placed it outside the actual kitchen; you can see the edge of one of the kitchen windows at the left edge of the picture. And yes, I have the outdoor sink under the kitchen windows, just as I have inside the kitchen. There's lots of storage, but that might not be necessary for an outdoor kitchen. I've never designed an outdoor living space before and don't know what would be needed. I've got the grill and a small fridge as well as a wall oven and bar seating at the jutting out part. Also, while working on the outdoor kitchen I made a few modifications to the indoor kitchen as well. ![]() I've changed the range to something more to my liking, and much larger than what I'd had before. In doing so I had to remove and resize some of the cabinetry as well as reshaped the range hood. I also added a backsplash on the wall behind the stove as well as a small part of the wall behind the sink. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Here's a picture of the entrance, from the opposite side of the garage door. If you're wondering what those diagonally striped boxes are, they're supposed to be trimmed hedges. I couldn't figure out how to make them so I used the basic box with a texture on it to try and simulate a "box hedge". I don't think it turned out quite the way I want. Re: A house I've been working on So, I went with your advice, HawkDawg, and copied the bathtub I'd had in the level 1 bathroom. I did however end up taking some floor space from the two closets on the other side as well as a bit of rearranging, but I think it turned out alright. ![]() I took this picture from the corner near the bathroom door, angled slightly down, trying to get in as much of what's going on in the room as possible. The only thing I'm not all that happy about is the fact that there's this open space at the foot of the bathtub. ![]() I'm thinking of some possible changes to the room though... ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Brainstorm. I think I came up with a way to fill in the empty spot. ![]() I'm not sure why putting a shower curtain in would make the shower so dark, but what can I do? I added a wall and a cabinet with shelving, although the cabinet isn't quite the right sizing as I would've hoped for. Since adding the cabinet, I figured the vanity needed a bit of a makeover; I changed it to the oak texture. Now it goes better with the cabinet/shelving. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Looks nice, but hard to tell exactly without knowing dimensions and see the layout in full. ..why putting a shower curtain in would make the shower so dark, but what can I do? 1) I guess the obvious answer is: add a light source . Anyway, experimenting with "Incandescent light source" at various strengths and various sizes around the room should give you the perfect rendering - eventually. 2) You could also try to use a semi-transparent texture on the shower curtain. Even if that can be quite tricky to control and get right... (It is also possible to edit the general opacity of the model, but unfortunately not from within SH3D colour dialogue.) ok |

Re: A house I've been working on Here's a screenshot of what the main floor bathroom looks like from the floor plan. ![]() I just realized that I hadn't moved the virtual visitor out of the bathtub after taking the previous shot... Anyway, as you can see the room is roughly 8 feet by 7 feet. A bit small I grant but not too bad. I do have a light source in the bathroom, but now that I look at it I think I might have it at the wrong angle for light to get past the shower curtain. I used the Halogen light source, set to about 25%, which probably explains the starkness of it? I'll try and see what I can do about the transparency of the shower curtain as well. Thank you, okh, for the great advice. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I've made a few I think minor changes to both the master bath and the front yard area. I've changed the tile on the floor and the bathing areas, changed the pattern on the shower curtain as well as flipped it, and added a matching bath mat. ![]() I have been unable to take a fully rendered 3D picture of the front, I think because of the cherry tree as well as possibly the rose bushes. This is actually a cropped screenshot. Okay, instead of the two green trees in the front it's now one cherry tree. And instead of the row of bushes it's now planters with roses. I tried finding stargazer lilies (my favorite flowers) to put there instead but I didn't find any on the previously mentioned page that I liked. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on I had an idea. Make the main floor exterior facade out of the old castle stones texture just like the entrance? Anybody have any thoughts on that? ![]() I had to take a screenshot instead of a rendered photo for this I think because of the really nice cherry tree I have in the front yard. Re: A house I've been working on I just did a little work on the front facade of the house and have come up with the following: ![]() Now, just image there are crossed beams in the rectangular sections surrounding the windows, since I'm not sure what to use to do so. Also, because of the file size of the cherry tree that I'd put in the front yard, I had to take it out in order to even get a rendered picture, but just imagine it there. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on Here's a straight-on view in a screenshot. You'll probably notice that in the rendered photos the fences and beams are light brown while in the screenshots they're darker. I intended for them to be darker, and used a color that I thought would work before the program update added the wood textures. Actually, I really wanted the beams to be about as dark as they are on the "Tudor Castle version 2" in my other post, but there are so many of them that it would take a lot of work to fix it. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned That's quite interesting; we both interpreted this same model in different ways. What you came up with is truly fascinating. You stuck closer to true with your model and worked hard to recreate it, while I was more inspired by it to create something that could work in more modern times, for myself. I like it. I do want to apologize though for taking so long to post my reply as I was actually in the middle of making some adjustments to my version. With my adjustments (and changes) my file for it has gotten quite large, and I've had to make a secondary file without any of the inside furnishings (except for lighting and built-ins of course) for outside shots. I was able to take rendered shots of the outside today (both aerial and virtual visitor views), and can share those with you. Aerial Front. Virtual Visitor Front. You can see that I've included some cherry trees in blossom in the front. I've also taken out those rose bushes in trestles (would that be the right word for what I'd had? I don't know) along the front, replaced one with a hedge, and the rest with a different model of rose bushes and lily plants. I readjusted the direction of the front gate, and made the driveway gate a single one instead of double. I replaced what I'd used for the roofing so that the bottom edge worked better. Finally, I realized that the turret entrance that I'd had on there before wasn't actually very even (the roofing wasn't matching up) so I took all that out and started from scratch, with the roofing as the starting point... pun unintentional... ![]() Not visible in these pictures is the hanging light inside of the turret entrance, which I changed for the box-shaped model that I'd used in another project. I also adjusted the redness on the front door, but that barely visible in these pictures. ![]() Aerial Back. ![]() ![]() Virtual Visitor Back (four points of view). As you can see, I did take out that entire back of the fencing. I figured it best to no longer limit the size of the backyard as much as I had. I also replaced the entire outdoor kitchen with another model that I found on 3D Warehouse (this one is actually a full kitchen; the "bar" is actually two other models by the same designer). It's a bit wider than what I'd had before so I ended up moving the rest of the furnishings (including the fireplace) in order to make room. I realize that I no longer have bar stools; I meant to add them but didn't have quite enough room to put them back. I then realized that the fireplace didn't look right, that it no longer tied in to the backyard, so I changed some of its textures to match the kitchen. I also replaced all of those boxes that I'd used for the patio covering with something else that I'd previously found on 3D Warehouse. I also changed the paved area using a picture I'd found online for patio tiling. Virtual Visitor, Side Door. My final picture at present. Not much changes here. I used a fun fabric texture for the table umbrella. I actually added another lamppost, but it's unfortunately just out of sight on the virtual visitor's right. I trued up the hedges back here to fit better in the space provided. I also dimmed the porch lights around the door (I hadn't realized just how bright they were until I tried to render this picture), and I adjusted the redness of the door, just as I'd done to the front door. And as I write the above, I realize that I probably need to do the same with the other porch lights around the garage doors... I believe I added a couple of extra windows to the top floor (in the master bedroom), but I think that I might have added more in other places. Thing is, I don't remember where else exactly, and I don't seem to see any older pictures that would help remind me. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned that looks great, I need to figure out how to post pics directly. I also had to completely redo mine (fun tho) because I realized with the entryway at the top of the winding stair, her head was in the upstairs closet! So I completely redid the stairs with half landings. Will post sometime :) Do you know where you found the original model pic? Tx |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned I don't remember where I'd originally found the model picture, but I just did an internet search and found this website: Would Anne Boleyn Have Enjoyed Living in a Tudor Revival House? This article contains a picture of the model as well as other homes. I hope that helps. As for posting pictures directly, I don't think that's possible (although I'm not a part of the developers of this forum) but you can post them to a free site (like TinyPic or MediaFire) and they provide you with a link you can add to what you write. Oh, and thank you for the compliment; I don't expect them but am highly grateful for them. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned Here are a few more pictures I've been able to take of the update. I had to create separate files for just about each room for these (the Guest Bedroom and Guest Bathroom I saved as one file and the Garage was another one). ![]() ![]() The Garage. The first picture is taken from one of the corners next to the Garage Door, and the second picture is taken from in front of the water heater. ![]() ![]() The Guest Bedroom. I believe (since I can't seem to find any other recent pictures of this) that I changed just about all the furniture except for the lamps. I know I did change the carpeting and the ceiling texture. ![]() ![]() The Guest Bathroom. I changed the walls from Matte to Shiny, and changed the color scheme so that it matches the Guest Bedroom - changed the tiles on the floor and in the bathing area, changed the marble on the sink countertop, changed the towels to green terry cloth. I think I also changed the model bathtub. I did try to take a picture of the Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen area but the file seems to think it's too big to do so. I think it might just be my computer (it is about 8 years old after all). I did create a separate file for this though; here it is if anybody else would care to try : Tudor Castle Redraft Alt 3 Living Dining Kitchen---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned I am so devastated at the moment; my computer crashed on me yesterday without warning, and I lost a good number of the house designs I've been working on (not to mention other things I'd saved on it). The ones that I didn't lose were ones that I downloaded to MediaFire, but some of those aren't quite updated (I posted those there then made modifications, but didn't save the modifications). ![]() So, it looks like some of them I'm going to have to start from scratch, and some I'll have to update, hopefully with the help of the pictures I've posted here and on Facebook as references. That'll take some time though. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned I'm glad that I had a couple of files saved on MediaFire for this house, since I'd done some updating on part of one and had all the floors in another. I was able to combine them, as well as make a few design changes - inside and out. Here's a link to the file, if you want a walkthrough. http://www.mediafire.com/file/12md656nvpm2qho...lt_3%25282%2529.sh3d/file ![]() Front of the house, three different angles. ![]() ![]() Back of the house, four different angles. Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned Since the photo sharing site that I'd used before took itself down, I of course lost quite a few of the pictures I'd shared, especially with the last ones I'd shared of this one. Good news though, I actually had made some updates recently with this house and now have some new pictures I can share. http://www.mediafire.com/file/64m83ihzx6nidt4/TC-A3.sh3d/file ![]() Front, both Aerial and Virtual Visitor view. As can be seen, I have been able to create the "X" designs on the front of the house, by changing the "Horizontal rotation around" X axis on several blank boxes. Now, what I had in mind is actually visible. I also changed a few things (I found a green stucco texture online that I like), added a few other things, generally what I've done in the past. The stucco that I found. ![]() Front entrance. As can be seen, I moved the large vehicle out of the garage, basically because I have a VW Beetle inside; I don't remember if I had shared this change before. Back Aerial. As can be seen, I added a gardening shed near the back, made a few more changes (mostly textural). ![]() Back Patio, two different angles. ![]() Side Front Room, two different angles. ![]() Dining Room, two different angles. Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned Surprise, surprise! I've revisited an old home and made some changes! I was looking at the postings I had made here in the past, and it got me thinking that, for the size of this house, maybe a 1-car garage was a little too... little... so I decided to save it as a separate file and work a little on it. Here's the file after the big change, but I still have a bit of work needed on it; I think that there's still a bit of work to do on the middle floor, but the top floor is still in need of much more work. Aerial Front View You can see the major changes I've made to the roofline, as well as brought the turret up an extra story. Main Floor No major change here other than the garage getting bigger, which called for a few adjustments outside on that side of the house. Middle Floor Here's where most of the changes have taken place in the last few days. I had to figure out the placement of that whole new area above the larger garage. Instead of just one bedroom over a small portion of it, there's now two bedrooms, a bathroom and a sort of bonus space which I've decorated as a computer room. Top Floor Here's some good changes but I'm not sure if I've got it right just yet. I elongated the bedroom space, moved the bathroom over, and added in both a walk-in closet and a sitting room. I just have stuff roughly in place but I might work on it later in the week when I have the time. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |

Re: A house I've been working on (Tudor) redesigned I think I've got the new version of this house pretty much updated (well, until I think of something else to add?), and new photos rendered. The house now has a total of five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a couple of other new rooms. Without further ado, here are the pictures. Disclaimer: I did not add window coverings inside the house, and in some rooms I did not add wall art. It is to be assumed, and imagined, that these things are there. I am, of course, starting with the outside front: ![]() ![]() And, as you walk in, on the main floor, you'll see that there aren't all that much in the way of changes (mostly cosmetic), except in the garage: ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, the second floor, starting with the hallway starting from the stairs: ![]() The bathroom and bedroom closest to the stairs, as well as the laundry room, haven't changed much. The biggest change, with the laundry room, is that I took out the door frame and replaced it with a door. What I'd previously had as the family room, I've made into one of the new bedrooms, with a small walk-in closet: The new family room, where one of the original bedrooms had been: Now, onto the new rooms added above the enlarged garage, starting with the new bathroom: The first of the new bedrooms, with a walk-in closet: ![]() And, before heading to the top floor, here's the second of the new bedrooms: Top floor, starting with the sewing/craft room, and not much changed here: The rest of the rooms have been changed quite a lot, including the addition of the following sitting room: ![]() The revised primary bedroom, and its en suite bathroom (I didn't get a picture inside the large walk-in closet, which also has a door to the sewing/craft room): ![]() Now, the outside back. Not much changed here, just adjusting for the larger garage, and the back fence/gate separating the patio area from the green space. Finally, the screenshots of each level of the floor plan: ![]() And, before I forget, here's a link to the file if you wish to download it. ---------------------------------------- ![]() |
