Custom 3D Models So I'm creating a replica of my family's home and I would like 3D models made of certain pieces of furniture, based on extensive pictures, drawings, and measurements I've collected. Any idea who to pursue? Also what am I looking at in terms of feasibility and cost? Another question: Is there any way to compress size of objs? I created a lamp and now the obj is about 38 MB which slows down the house. Any ideas are so so appreciated. |

Re: Custom 3D Models Maybe the second part of this tip will help you... Is there any way to compress size of objs? What tool did you use?---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Custom 3D Models That tip is helpful when it comes to simple, rectangular objects, but not so much when it comes to what I am looking for, in particular chairs that look like the files I've attached below. http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt294/Just...99in6654C_zpsmtgyiyvz.jpg http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt294/Just...tte%20001_zpsaqcufhfl.jpg http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt294/Just...day%20001_zpsa2i2o5bp.jpg http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt294/Just...kaat6654C_zpsglr8xse9.jpg http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt294/Justin_Wiles/Scan1002_zpsgybkq53c.jpg Regarding the custom lamp, I used a combination of cylinders and models in Art of Illusion and SweetHome itself. I've attached a link to that as well. https://www.mediafire.com/?6qlg4t7hy5n5p4o |

Re: Custom 3D Models Some searching in the 3D Warehous may yield what you need, or at least something close. For me, the room layout is the most important, the furniture is more a general illustration. Therefore I prefer quite simple models (small file sizes) that will not distract my work. But I also need furniture to have surfaces that can be changed and textured to see the general overall impression. I posted some chairs I could not find in the catalogue - small file sizes that can be textured and scaled to do the trick for me. But well, it depends on how accurate you want your recreation. See SH3D Sourceforge 3D models 288. ![]() ![]() PS. Sometimes I make exact replicas of existing furniture, but that is only when they are so off that nobody is likely to have made them - or need them ... ![]() |

Re: Custom 3D Models To make a lamp design that "weighs" 28 MB seems like overkill. Models like this will slow down the performance of SH3D to a level that doesn't feel comfortable anymore. H ---------------------------------------- Hans new website - under constuction hansdirkse.info |

Re: Custom 3D Models If you designed your model with Art of Illusion, you should pay attention to the value in the Max Surface Error field when you select Export > Wavefront menu item: ![]() This value is used to approximate round surfaces to triangles and rectangles that are the only shapes supported by OBJ format. If you use a too small value (like you probably did), this will end up to the creation many super small triangles in a big OBJ file, with no visual benefit. Try a bigger value until you get a correct result with smooth enough surfaces. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |
