Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
Hello all,

I'm looking for minimalist objects / models for windows, doors and / or frames. Think Richard Neutra etc.

The ones I came across / downloaded so far are a bit too decorative for my taste.

Any tips on how to alter existing objects or links to more modernist objects would be of GREAT help!

Thank you.

There are a couple of plain frame windows/doors in the catalogue/repository, like the Fixed window (this can be combined to make multiple-frame windows). Or a 3D warehouse search for windows , will produce thousands of results - maybe one will fit?

If you need something more specific, some more detail might just result in someone already having made one.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot. Will install Sketchup to convert files.

If you download in .KMZ format (Google Earth KMZ), you can import directly (drag-drop) to SH3D. Remember to check the box for window/door. If you install Sketchup, export to .DAE is usually the best option for SH3D import (which is the same format used in 3D Warehouse KMZ files). But, of course, with Sketchup you can modify or make your own windows. ok

Re: Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
Thanks.
Sketchup won't download for some reason, just keeps loading the page.

I tried creating my own with some boxes directly in SH3D, but that's not how it's usually done, right?

Ok, importing .KMZ files works!

Is there a way to disproportionately scale a window or frame without it looking all streeeeetched?

Sounds strange. Did you try to download KMZ format from the 3D warehouse and import directly? In that case you don't need Sketchup.

Whatever works smile The Service Hatch is quite useful for simple openings, but does not have a window pane. If you want to create your own simplistic window model, you could:
- Open a new file;
- Draw a wall the size of your frame;
- Import a transparent surface (e.g. this from SF 3D 303), make sure Door/Window is checked;
- Resize, and place the transparent surface exactly in the wall (frame);
- Select all, export selection to .obj;
- Import as a Door/Window.
ok

Alas, if you, say, scale a window to triple width, the frame sides will look stretched. So you should probably look for a model with approximately the right proportions (or make your own window). Note that you can rotate the model when importing, so you can place a horizontal window vertically and vice versa, if that helps. ok

Yes .KMZ import works.

Re: Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
Aaargh!
The panel loses its transparency after rendering. Or it acts real weird, half transparent or something.

There was a 'glass box' model I had before but can't find it.
Any other glass objects I could use?

Thanks.

Fatal rendering error?

Re: Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
Sorry for all the questions lol.

The glass box will only create a hole in the wall if it's at least as deep as the wall? Leaves me with glass as thick as 30 cm.

Re: Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
The pane doesn't need to be as thick in order to create a hole in the wall. So I guess all I need is a good glass pane that doesn't act up after rendering.

Thanks.
Am I importing them the wrong way?
Boxes seem to need to be as deep / thick as the wall I place them in before it will create a hole, the glass pane (doesn't render) I used before didn't.

Re: Modernist / minimalist windows, doors, frames?
Ok, i think this is working:

Wall.
Place invisible box inside wall, this creates a hole.
Place glass box / pane inside hole.
