Rooms and Ceilings Hello All, Just started with SH3D and doing OK but can someone clear this up for me please? To have a ceiling do you have to form a room first? i.e. how do I put a ceiling on 4 walls. Cheers Guy. |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings Yes, you have to make a room first. If you don't want a floor, just un-check that box. H ---------------------------------------- Hans new website - under constuction hansdirkse.info |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings Hello, Thank you for your prompt reply. Would it be ok to insert a room within what I've already created? Please see GDocs link. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BznwZlbnsGeMcmY3QVFaa042Qjg/edit?usp=sharing Originally, I asked the question because, as you can see from the images below, for a newbie, I'm trying to create something rather advanced. Have you any advice with this please? I've read the relevant PDF tutorial for sloping roofs and ceilings, dormers. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BznwZlbnsGeMYi00SUR3SWdVaWM/edit?usp=sharing Cheers, Guy. |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings For the ceilings alone - if I understand you correctly - you can create two rooms with the help of minimal wall (sent you a cheat file). However, when I look at your pictures I do not understand how you intend to finish the construction, you want sloped windows, bay windows, or? ok |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings This is what I'm trying to replicate: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BznwZlbnsGeMUGlLcnhmdlV4Q2M/edit?usp=sharing Bay windows first. The sloping ceiling may be a bridge too far!! |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings Hard to tell without knowing the outside - if the outer walls are vertical, I would go with straight walls and add triangles for the support structure. If wall/roof indents - that the windows protrude - it will require some measuring, exporting/importing/turning of .obj files to get it right. As for the sloping ceiling, that may actually not be too hard if you draw a wall like this _/\_, export it to .obj, import and rotate it - and then stick the ceiling/roof on a separate level. ok |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings I'm still having trouble getting the ceiling to drop with the slopped walls. I've solved a ceiling problem in another thread and made sure they all level and no rouge walls. Here are some screenshots to demonstrate where I'm at: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BznwZ...pNY1pEYTA&usp=sharing I was wondering if the joints between walls would cause a problem? I've included a screenshot from your cheat sheet and my construction showing diagonal joints in yours and right angles in mine. I've tried joining the wall but all sort of weird things happen, I've included a shot of this as well. |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings Don't know whether the joints influences ceiling calculation. If you use the AdvancedEdit plugin to connect walls, make sure the direction of the walls are the same and that you select the walls in proper order. There are some oddities in the AdvancedEdit, but on second attempt it usually works - and could not live without... Judging by your pictures of the bay windows (?), I am not so sure I would use sloped ceilings calculated automatically. It is probably easier to rely on import/export/flip of the elements you want. ok |

Re: Rooms and Ceilings The examples in thread 5364 may help explain what I mean. Note that the roof (and ceiling) elements are put on a separate level. ok ![]() |
