Installing mini-blinds on/into windows How do I go about installing mini-blinds on or into a window in my SH3D plan? I have tried several ways (importing blinds as a door/window, resizing, etc). I thought I had the mini-blinds installed correctly at one point, but there are blinds on both sides of the window from just one blind, eek! My wall thickness is 6", same for the window frame (the window, blind will auto re-size to wall thickness regardless), and I tried several ways to re-size the mini blinds to work. 3d Warehouse doesn't have the greatest collection. I was hoping to find a pre-made model, but could not find anything suitable or that I could manipulate. I thought I could use Sketchup (Make-Free Version) to import an object file and was not able to do that as well. I was hoping to put the window and blind together in Sketchup to no avail. I wish there were an easy to use a program for models where I could put stuff like this together. I could take the plunge and purchase Sketchup, but for $600 (US)its just too much. I also tried art of illusion, but I just don't have the time to learn. I am spoiled as I used to work at a place where they bought CAD (Full Version) and it was heaven. Maybe Sketchup could invent an easy to use 3d modeler that wasn't rocket science to learn and use? Not trying to reinvent the wheel, just want mini-blinds on my windows. Here are two photo links (each side): Side A: Side B: Thanks for your help. |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Don't place the blind with the mouse. Once you've installed the window, place the blind just near the window, give it the correct size, rotation and elevation, and then move it inside the window "hole" using the arrow keys. That way it will not take the width of the wall. ---------------------------------------- If a long walk every day were healthy, mailmen would be immortal. ![]() |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Mark, My solution would be to combine a window, mini-blinds, and a second window into one. Then I would Export as OBJ format and Import as furniture, making sure that I would check the door/window box. Maybe that's too easy? Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows spakywalk, I think it's time for you to learn how to activate/deactivate the magnetism when needed. If you deactivated it (temporarily or permanently), you could place your blind anywhere without Sweet Home 3D trying to apply constraints on it. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Thank you all for your kind replies. I turned magnetism off and was able to re-size the blinds and they are now on the inside of the windows and the mouse worked just fine, looking good! On another note, I thought I saw something in one of the SW write ups about displaying drawings on my website so others could walk through, but am not finding it. If you could please let me know if I am confused by something I saw elsewhere or if in fact this can be done, where can I find the write up at? I hope I can do this, it would be awesome. I so appreciate all of your help. Have a great day! Mark |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows You can publish plans as images made from a SVG export and the 3D view with Sweet Home 3D viewer Java applet (the viewer is listed among the other downloads available for Sweet Home 3D). ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Thanks very much. I have to confess that I am a little confused upon downloading the viewer and looking at the ReadMe file. I assume I need FTP and HTML editor software to do complete the install? Or? |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows You don't need any HTML editor (at least during your first tests), but you'll need FTP to upload the viewer files + your sh3d file. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Thank you. I downloaded FileZila and found a tutorial on line as I haven't done this before, obviously. :) |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Well, Guess I don't know what the heck I am doing. :) My web host (weebly) does not support FTP. And seems that a lot of hosts are not supporting FTP for whatever reason. I uploaded my sh3d file into my site and a user can either download the file, or load it into another tab or window, which only provides the following URL: http://www.weebly.com/uploads/1/9/8/6/19867165/nspc.sh3d. I can't figure out how to edit the viewer.html file without editing software. I was trying to see if there is/was a work around by uploading the file to the host (weebly) and to see if I could manipulate the viewer.html file to change the URL to see if it possibly worked. Then if so, I would embed the code into my site with the hosts HTML embed feature. I was also going to use a Google site, however they don't support FTP either. I hope this makes sense. Obviously I am novice in this area, and I really appreciate any help you can provide. P.S. How do I go about changing my forum user name/ID to Mark? Thanks again. Mark |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows You can edit an HTML file with any text editor. Updating the sh3d file displayed by the viewer is explained in points 3 and 4 of the README.TXT file. You can copy the viewer files with FTP but also with the tools proposed by your host provider. In that case take care of keeping the same organization in the lib directory or it won't work. How do I go about changing my forum user name/ID to Mark? Sorry you can't.---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows Hi, Sorry to keep the drama going. Ok I managed to get the viewer to work from my pc (in my browser), yeah! :) I uploaded the viewer files (including jar files) into my web site, and copied the script files from the viewer edit (notepad) file where I successfully made the changes to get my browser to pull up the file. I put the script file text into a html embed box on my web site that Weebly.com (my site provider) has without success and have tried several variances to no avail. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I know that a good portion of SH3D users are programmers and such, but I am not. With all do (and very high) respect, the viewer instructions are more geared for programmers, and assumptions are made that the user knows everything stated. I keep going over and over the instructions, spending way too much time trying to make this work. Specifically, I am confused by the instructions where it says copy the content of the applet scripts of viewer into my web page. I assumed that the applet scripts are the same script I had to change to get the browser to work, correct? If not, could you please share where I get the applet script to copy and paste? It is difficult not having an actual "script" or "applet" file and if one is a non-programmer such as me it is very frustrating. I don't like having to ask so many questions. My goal is to get clarity so I can learn and complete this current project. I can forward any information you want (screen shots of Weebly's site, a text version of the viewer edit file) if need be. On the positive, I am really enjoying using SH3D, and am learning a lot! :):) I appreciate your help and look forward to your response. Thank you, Mark |

Re: Installing mini-blinds on/into windows You could copy the applet script in any HTML page, even a very basic one: <html>If it still doesn't work, post the link to the page, it will help to find out the error. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |
