Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong Hello, I am a newbie I have tried importing additional furniture but the colors disappear. I imported one from the sweet home 3d website which worked with colors but others from elsewhere disappear. one example is the IKEA barstool from the website polantis. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I also cannot seem to import the obj that i made in Blender with its colors/textures either- is this as similar problem of not saving the MTL files with OBJ? I would imagine that Blender has a way of doing so if any program does |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong So Ive just checked and the MTL file is saved by blender right next to the OBJ file. How can I put them together so that SweetHome 3D imports them together? |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong Inside the OBJ file is a line that points to the MTL file. So if both files are in the same directory, the MTL is automatically imported/copied alongside the OBJ file. If you want to prevent errors, you can combine both files in a ZIP files. Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong Hmmm... I undertand about the files from Polantis I think that I am doing something wrong inside Blender; I took the fireplace from SweetHome3D's website just now, imported it into Blender, changed the brown to green, and exported it as a new OBJ file. When I tried to import the new fireplace into SweetHome3D the section of the fireplace that I changed had no color(white) It did not revert to the brown and other colors like the yellow from the grate was still there. What is this newbie overlooking? |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong OK, actually the original fireplace is not importing correctly into SweetHome 3D either. OK, actually I having all sorts of difficulties importing furniture. Some are even coming in flat |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong ok, well I have gone to importing the OBJ files into Blender and exporting as DAE files, which seems to be working. Perhaps there are just a few hiccups with Sweet Home 3D importing OBJ files still? |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong The scale now is still off and I have to type in the appropriate dimensions when importing into Sweet Home 3D but that is probably due the my lack of expertise in Blender. Thanks for your help! |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong Ok, so now I have gotten to the point where I can import a DAE into SweetHome 3D and it appears totally correct in the new furniture import setup windows but when I go to hit the final button and have it enter the room the actual piece goes all white! |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong When you download a DAE model, it consists of the DAE file and a separate directory that contains the textures. If you move the file to a different location, you should move the texture directory as well. If you don't do that, you end up with white models. Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong What does the textures directory look like? I dont see anything which looks like it is the file I am saving it in |

Re: Problem importing furniture; colors disappear/wrong You are amazing! I created a new folder to save the DAE file in. When I did so I discovered that a copy of the photograph which I used for the basis of the texturing was saved in that file and that is when it hit me-that the texture files would be external files that the DAE ( and probably OBJ?!?) would access, not that they would have saved within themselves. So then I immediately bundled the DAE with the PNG into a zip and imported the zip and VIOLA!!! Thank you so much for your help today and your patience as I stumble through, thrashing and grabbing everything afloat around me. |
