Hip roofs Hi, Just discovered the Sweet Home 3D program and this forum - any suggestions for doing hip roofs or maybe an existing model that can be downloaded? Also, any way to do material estimates for a given design? Thanks very much... -Bob |

Re: Hip roofs Bob, There is no roof function within SH3D. However, there is a tutorial that explains how several types of roofs can be made (PDF). Although this tutorial doesn't describe how to make a hip roof, it shows a few other variations, and the technique used should enable you to make a hip roof. As to material estimates... the internal structure of SH3D is prepared for a material list with prices and taxes. However, the user interface hasn't been programmed. If you can program, you could write a plug-in that suits your needs. Hans ---------------------------------------- Hans new website - under constuction hansdirkse.info |

Re: Hip roofs Hans, Thanks very much for the tip - will check it out and see what I can come up with. I found a gable roof example and was able to get it working with the shed I'm using as an example to see how the program works. Hip roofs are a bit more complicated than my limited carpentry skills will handle, so was looking for an existing example but so far no luck. Will check out the developer guides and see what is involved. Thanks again for the help and for such a terrific program!! -Bob |
